by Lesley Goldberg
NBC is looking to an NBA star for its next game show.
The network is teaming with All-Star LeBron James for a game show in which everyday teams of two can compete for life-changing amounts of money, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Currently in the pilot stage, James and his Springhill Productions banner are producing the untitled game show. The series is casting for teams of two — couples, sisters, fathers and sons, etc. — who will compete together for life-changing amounts of money.
Produced by James and Andrew Glassman and his Glassman Media shingle, the game show offers every day people a chance to dramatically change their lives.
For James, the NBC game show marks his latest TV foray. He's also an executive producer on Starz's "Survivor's Remorse", a comedy inspired by his life that will head into its second season this year.

JamesG 10-28-2015, 08:19 PM Chris Hardwick Signs on as Host of New NBC Game Show "The Wall"
by Megan Daley
10/28/15
Chris Hardwick has been named host of NBC’s new primetime game show, "The Wall", the network announced Wednesday.
From LeBron James’ SpringHill Entertainment and Glassman Media, "The Wall" follows two-person teams as they attempt to answer trivia questions with big money on the line.
For the game, a ball is launched down a giant wall – hence the show’s title – lined with a series of pegs, and then lands in a slot marked with a monetary value. The slot determines how much the duo could win – or lose – based on their trivia answers. (It’s more or less Plinko.)
“I’m excited about this series because it’s different than anything on TV right now. It’s got everything — excitement, drama, and action — and it’s something the entire family can watch and root for together. I believe Chris Hardwick brings all of that together in a really entertaining way that people will enjoy,” James said in a statement.
“For SpringHill Entertainment, it’s about creating quality and innovative content for all types of audiences, and I’m proud of the exciting projects we continue to be a part of.”
Hardwick added: “I love game shows, and partnering with LeBron James and NBC to potentially give away millions of dollars to people who deserve it is an incredible opportunity. (I’m sorry, NBC, I’m hoping to give away a lot of your money.)”
NBC has ordered up 10 episodes of the game show, with Hardwick attached to executive produce.
Hardwick is currently the host of Comedy Central’s "@midnight" and AMC's "Talking Dead".

Coffeecup 11-08-2015, 06:16 PM This seems more a luck show. Drop a ball down a wall and hit a space! Even with the questions asked and answer, the end result is dropping a ball?
Edward216 01-10-2016, 03:40 AM Weird, the article doesn't say when the show's going to air.

JamesG 11-14-2016, 05:38 PM NBC Sets Premiere Date for "The Wall" from EPs Chris Hardwick & LeBron James
by Erik Pedersen
November 14, 2016
NBC’s "The Wall", a new game show hosted by "@midnight‘s" Chris Hardwick, who also executive produces along with LeBron James, will premiere January 3rd at 8pm.
The 10-episode series will feature two-person teams related by family, friendship or life experience. They’ll compete for cash that can be won or lost in an instant, depending upon whether a ball bounces their way, or a trivia question is answered correctly.
The rules are simple: Get a question correct and a green ball will fall down the four-story wall and add the value of the slot to the players’ winning total. Miss a question and an ominous red ball will fall and deduct the value from the team.
Teammates have to work together to build a huge cash prize. As the game progresses, the stakes get even higher when one player is sent into an isolation room behind the wall. It is here where the pair’s faith in each other will be tested as the teammates play the remainder of the game without any communication.
More than $12 million is on the line every night, the network says.
The series will get a pair of preview airings: 10pm on December 19 after the "America’s Got Talent" holiday special and again at 10pm on January 2, following the premiere of "The New Celebrity Apprentice".
"The Wall" is a collaboration between SpringHill Entertainment and Glassman Media with James, Hardwick, Maverick Carter and Andrew Glassman serving as EPs. The series was developed by Glassman Media in conjunction with CORE Media.

Hawkee 11-24-2016, 04:51 PM I happened to see the preview of The Wall during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and based on the preview The Wall seems like a great game show and when it debuts I can tell you it will be a hit in ratings

Hawkee 12-14-2016, 03:46 AM Yesterday NBC was promoting The Wall like crazy because during the news almost every single commercial that NBC had was for The Wall. So it seems that NBC really has high hopes for The Wall. When I saw the preview for The Wall it looks like a new remake of the 80's game show The Popping Rocker Game that made the late Phil Hartman a star when he was an announcer on it. So with the debut of The Wall coming up NBC will return to bringing quality game shows to TV

I wonder what kind of host Hardeick will be? I have never seen him doing anything. He does not have the slick or corny look of a regular game show host. What do you think Bestie?

NBC ran a preview episode on Monday (12/19), which I watched . My guess is it won't be around that long. Picture an hourlong game of Plinko with some questions thrown in to break up the monotony.
Hawkee 12-28-2016, 02:46 AM I watched The Wall for the very first time today and let me tell you. The Wall is one of the worst game shows i've seen in history. From the first time I heard about The Wall I expected it to be full of excitement and fun and when I finally saw it I can say it's a disappointment. The gameplay reminded me of NBC's 1 Vs 100 and when I saw the way they designed the wall I think they took inspiration from The Price Is Right's Plinko game and also from the New Year's Eve celebrations where the New Year's Eve ball drops. The questions I found out were indeed easy and I don't know why they have to play video clips before the question is revealed and that is the weakest part of the game. As for the host of The Wall I don't know why NBC chose Chris Hardwick to be the host of the show because I felt that he was weak and trying to do his best but simply I disliked him because of his personality and someone like Howie Mandel or Bill Hader or Billy Gardell could have been a better host for The Wall. So in my humble opinion I can expect The Wall to be cancelled really soon or have weak ratings. I think NBC really had high hopes for The Wall but NBC could do much better next time

Coffeecup 12-28-2016, 12:38 PM I saw the show too and didn't think much of it. First an hour is too long. Many half hour shows pack more punch than this show did. The show is just about all luck. Drop a ball and see where it lands. I prefer Jeopardy and the Millionaire.

Bestie, thank you for your honest and thoughtful review of "the wall". I watched it and agree with you. I bet this game show was thrown together at the last minute to try to take advantage of Donald Trump's election as President. They think that by calling a game show "The Wall", people will watch it, because Trump is always talking about his wall. They took the Plinko game, which is two minutes of Price is Right, and tried to make an hour out of it. Pretty pathetic. Thank you Bestie! I always look forward to your reviews!
Happy New Year!

70s show watcher 12-29-2016, 06:28 PM i watched it i thought that it was kind of dumb
Mario500 01-02-2017, 02:19 PM The name of this topic should be corrected the program had its premiere this past December.
Edward216 01-04-2017, 04:29 AM I missed it Monday but they reran the first episode again Tuesday evening. And yeah it's OK but it's not as fun as I thought it would be. But if it lasts I'll watch it from time to time. But I doubt it will.

Mario500 01-04-2017, 08:36 AM I missed it Monday but they reran the first episode again Tuesday evening.
I believe that was actually a new "episode". As for how I felt about it and the other episodes shown thus far, I thought they were fun to play, but sad to watch due to their emphases on the contestants (such as their private lives) and the ways in which those contestants acted (such as such their reactions to money won or lost, their reactions to certain questions, and their referring to each other by a nickname like "babe" or "baby"). I also did not like the ways in which those episodes were hosted (their host often said something very rude).
Edward216 01-08-2017, 03:13 AM Yeah I'm not a huge fan of Chris Hardwick and I mostly don't approve of his...style. But that's his sense of humor for you. So don't expect that to change.

JamesG 01-18-2017, 05:03 PM New NBC Game Show "The Wall" Picked Up For 20 More Episodes
by Nellie Andreeva
January 18, 2017
After a promising ratings start, NBC has ordered 20 more episodes of its new game show "The Wall", executive produced by NBA superstar LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s SpringHill Entertainment, and hosted by Chris Hardwick.
In its first two regular Tuesday telecasts, "The Wall" has averaged a 1.7 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.9 million viewers in Live+ Same Day. The Wall also increased its audience from week one to week two (6.8 million to 7.0 million), delivering the strongest ratings for an in-season first-year alternative series on the Big 4 networks since NBC hit "Little Big Shots" last season.
“We’re thrilled that viewers have become as captivated by The Wall as we are,” said Meredith Ahr, President, Universal Television Alternative Studio, NBC Entertainment.
“We have been in pursuit of a brand new high-stakes game show for a while and are so happy to have developed it with LeBron James. Every time a player releases a green or red ball, the tension is palpable because each drop can affect the contestants life in the most extraordinary way and that makes for great television.”
“When we started The Wall we wanted to create something that would get families excited and change peoples’ lives. Maverick and I couldn’t be more proud of the show’s early success and we want to keep building on that,” said LeBron James.
“I want to thank NBC for their partnership, Andrew Glassman for his vision, and all the fans for their support.”
“A big event, family-friendly game show that can open a night is a wonderful asset joining NBC’s powerhouse reality brands such as The Voice, America’s Got Talent, American Ninja Warrior and Little Big Shots,’” said Paul Telegdy, President, Alternative and Reality Group, NBC Entertainment.
“Chris Hardwick is masterful as he conducts this high-stakes rollercoaster, and the dramatic ride of the contestants ends with a thrilling decision that pays off differently every time and increases viewership significantly across the hour.”

THE WALL
Thursday, June 22, 8-9 P.M.
With more than $12 million on the line every night, and up to $3 million on a drop at four-stories high, "The Wall" was built for one purpose — to change everyday people’s lives in an instant.
Hosted and executive produced by TV personality Chris Hardwick, "The Wall" offers a pair of deserving teammates life-altering cash prizes. The rules are simple: Get a question correct and a green ball will fall down the wall and add the value of the slot to the players’ winning total. Miss a question and an ominous red ball will fall and deduct the value from the team. Teammates have to work together to build a huge cash prize.
Since debuting earlier this winter, "The Wall" has averaged a 1.7 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.7 million viewers overall, making it the second-biggest in-season alternative hit on the Big 4 networks in the last five years in total viewers, behind only "Little Big Shots".

JamesG 03-12-2018, 03:57 PM "The Wall" Renewed for Season 3 at NBC
by Erik Pedersen
March 12, 2018
Call it balls to the wall, NBC-style. The network has renewed its Chris Hardwick-hosted game show "The Wall" for a 20-episode third season. No premiere date was announced.
"The Wall" has averaged a 1.2 rating in adults 18-49 and 6 million viewers overall in L+7 ratings from Nielsen Media Research, including season highs with the show’s February 5 episode.
“Not only is The Wall intense, heartwarming and funny, but if the ball drops into a high-dollar slot, an entire family’s fortune can be completely changed for the better,” said Paul Telegdy, President of Alternative & Reality Group at NBC Entertainment.
“Huge congratulations to Universal Television Alternative Studio, Glassman Media and SpringHill Entertainment for producing a series that is not only compelling television but has the potential to be life-changing for our contestants.”
Said Carter, executive producer and CEO of SpringHill Entertainment:
“We’re proud to see people connecting with The Wall both at home and around the world in a way you don’t usually see with game shows. We created the format with the idea that families would all come together and root for these incredible stories, so to see that actually happening on a global scale is exciting and something we hope continues to grow.”

JamesG 08-01-2018, 01:35 PM Chris Hardwick to Return as Host of NBC's "The Wall" Next Season
by Dave Nemetz
July 31, 2018
Chris Hardwick is holding onto another one of his many TV hosting gigs: He’ll return as host of the NBC game show "The Wall" when it returns for Season 3, the network confirms.
Hardwick came under fire last month after accusations of emotional and sexual abuse from his ex-girlfriend Chloe Dykstra first came to light. After an investigation of the claims, though, AMC announced last week that Hardwick would return as host of the popular "The Walking Dead" after-show "Talking Dead", as well as "Talking with Chris Hardwick".
“We take these matters very seriously,” AMC said in a statement, “and given the information available to us after a very careful review, including interviews with numerous individuals, we believe returning Chris to work is the appropriate step.”
Debuting in December 2016, "The Wall" features contestants dropping balls down a massive, Plinko-like wall in hopes of winning a huge cash prize. Hardwick serves as the host, as well as an executive producer.
When the allegations against Hardwick first surfaced, NBC announced they would “assess the situation and take appropriate action based on the outcome.” Production on the 20-episode Season 3 is set to begin this fall.

JamesG 02-12-2020, 03:45 PM NBC Sets Premiere Dates for New Seasons of "Little Big Shots", "The Wall" & "Songland"
by Erik Pedersen
February 12, 2020
NBC has set the premiere dates for three of its returning unscripted series.
The “completely reimagined” "Little Big Shots" returns for Season 4 at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 1 — following a February 24 sneak preview — Season 3 of "The Wall" goes up at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 15, and "Songland" tunes up for Season 2 at 10 p.m. Monday, April 13.
Hosted by Chris Hardwick, "The Wall" returns from an extended hiatus after doling out more than $11 million in its first two seasons, and executive producer LeBron James has a game-changing twist to give away record-breaking money this time.
Get ready for the all-new Superdrop, when all seven balls rain down in a waterfall drop that takes the total possible prize each night to more than $13 million. But with more reward comes more risk and the potential to lose it all. Every question and every decision could be the difference of millions of dollars.
