While both shows shared the same kind of urban sensibility, the biggest connection between Mad About You and Spin City is the presence of Richard Kind in a comedic supporting role. The premise of Spin City though -- the story of the New York mayoral administration that runs city hall -- is actually introduced in MAY, a season before Spin City debuted. Of course, these aren't the same characters mind you. However, it is more or less, the same dynamic, as Jamie is hired as a P.R. rep for politician Lance Brockwell. (The actor who originally plays Brockwell is Alan Ruck, who also starred in Spin City as Stuart.) A season later, as a parallel to Spin City's first season, Jamie runs Brockwell's mayoral campaign. Interesting, around that same time, James Carville -- the other head honcho along with George Stephanopolous (for whom Michael J. Fox's character on Spin City is loosely based on) from the Bill Clinton campaign -- was on an episode of Mad About You.

Except Spin City was a cool show, while Mad About You sucked. Anything starring that cheesy geek Paul Reiser sucks.

So I say no.

It might have created a spark but nothing more
