I kind of hope they use the animated characters for the box art. I've always liked the look of the animation used in the opening credits.

That's some of the best package art that I've seen in a long time. Kudos to Shout! Factory!

I remember I got into the show back when it was on Nick at Nite but I haven't seen it since then. I remember the show was really funny but I don't know if I want to purchase the complete series. Mill Creek put out the first two seasons dirt cheap so maybe I'll pick those up to sample the show and then if it still holds up, I'll purchase the complete series. Those bonus features look great, but why isn't the reunion special on the bonus disc?

I love the box art. Flashy and fun like Fran and the background is evocative of the animated opening credits.

I just noticed that they used the exact same image of Fran from the original season 1 box art except they changed the color of her dress. However, they did goof up and forget some of the blue around the neckline...I hope they fix this before it's released.

You must have gotten a better coupon than I did. Mine was only 20% off of $200. Of course, I had planned to order the other items, anyway, so it all worked out.

I've pre-ordered from them quite a few times. In a couple cases, like Welcome Back Kotter and The Facts of Life, I had completely watched the series before the general release.

I love their service. They ship their DVDs very quickly and before the due date with many of their releases. I've gotten their big box releases straight from them like The Jeffersons, Facts of Life, Maude and others like Hart to Hart and Quincy M.E. with all great results.

I hope they use the same package design they did for "The Facts of Life"....the thick and glossy cardboard box.

I hope Shout Factory fixes music issues from Sony's season 3 DVD. From reading another thread, the season 3 DVD edited some music, such as the 2001: A Space Odyssey theme from "Pen Pal" episode. And I know that S4 had an episode with the Brian Setzer Orchestra as guest stars. S5 had the episode with Ray Charles singing "My Yiddishe Momme", and the episode guest starring Coolio (he mimed "My Soul"; "Throwdown 2000" played in another scene).

I ordered my set from Shout! Factory, so I should receive it 4 weeks earlier than regular street date.

I'm not an expert on the episodes or the music used so if anyone wants me to check on certain episodes, I'll be more than happy to help out but I won't be able to know all the songs myself.

TLC, here are the episodes to look out for regarding music, from what I've been able to gather on the sitcomsonline boards and from the syndicated eps of the show I've seen on YouTube:

S2:
"Lamb Chop's on the Menu" (Chariots of Fire theme played during scene where Fran and CC try to save Lamb Chop)

S3:
"Pen Pals" (astronaut fantasy scene used 2001: A Space Odyssey theme);
"Val's Apartment" ("Trolley Song" in the scene after Fran opens the door, before Fran and Val are shown sleeping)

S5:
"Homie-Work" featured 2 Coolio songs: "My Soul" (mimed by Coolio) and "Throwdown 2000" (in the scene where Fran "makes over" Coolio's character);
"The Bobbi Flekman Story" (last scene of the episode has a performance by the Brian Setzer Orchestra);
"Fair Weather Fran" (Ray Charles performs "My Yiddishe Momme" in the last pre-credits scene);
"The First Date" (Elton John guest starred, and the episode had a brief scene from the documentary Elton John: Tantrums & Tiaras...could be a rights issue too).

I also left a comment to the Shout website. I'll post if they respond.

From season 3, these are confirmed edits on the Sony set:
"The Party's Over", about 8:35 into the episode, "It's Raining Men" was replaced during Fran's party.
"Having His Baby", 18:35 into the episode the Flintstones theme was replaced when Fran chases a kid around the house.
"A Pup in Paris", 15:20 into the episode, "I Love Paris" is played during the Paris montage, but replaced on the DVD.

I will be sure to watch the episodes listed above first thing when I receive my set and report back here about any music edits/replaces.

My main concern is the "Chariots of Fire" theme song. I know it's not a huge deal but Time-Life wasn't able to clear it for the "Mama's Family" set so the odds aren't very good for Shout! Factory.

In 2006, Anchor Bay was able to clear the Chariots theme for the "Thanks for the Memories" season 3 episode of Doogie Howser MD (SitcomsOnline review of the DVD confirms no music replacements (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/doogiehowsermdseason3dvdreview.html) for that DVD).

I checked Wikipedia and found that the Chariots theme was used in gags in several films (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chariots_of_Fire_%28instrumental%29#Parodies_in_film) from 1983 to 2005. And the London Symphony Orchestra performed the Chariots theme in the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony to accompany a Rowan Atkinson comedy skit. To conclude, licensing the Chariots theme must've become so expensive within the past decade or two that it's only within the reach of an Olympics ceremony budget.

I just checked the original Sony DVD release of season 2 and the "Chariots of Fire" theme IS included in the episode "Lamb Chop's on the Menu".

I'm not quite sure why Time-Life/StarVista couldn't secure the rights for this song for the recent "Mama's Family" set. Maybe they wanted more money than they were willing to pay...? I'm not sure. I just hope they include it in the new complete series set of "The Nanny".

I've found the e-mail usually arrives the same day the package does. Sometimes, the e-mail arrives the day after you've received the set.

Yes, they will send you email when DVD has been shipped. I got an email on Friday for The Colbys and the DVD came in the mail today. They use 3 day priority shipping with those DVDs they shipped out a month earlier like The Colbys, The Nanny, The Jeffersons and Facts of Life.

When you say Lucy...are you talking about Lucille Ball? I've seen the episode but I'm not familiar with it.

I havent seen the original airing, just a clip of it. In the second wedding episode, just after Sylvia puts Fran to bed, Fran turns the tv on to watch I Love Lucy, then it fades to Maxwell watching the same show.

That's generally why I wasn't the Nanny fan either. Just the same, this is another very well made release from Shout! (package art, case art, disc art, the whole shebang), and the pictures truly bear witness to that.

For Shout! Factory to be a smaller company, they seem to do better at getting music rights than bigger companies like Time-Life.

I hope this isn't the last great series set we get from Shout!...they do such great work on their products. You can tell they actually care about the shows they release and that they're fans just like us!

My copy of the Barney Miller release had the same problems. Personally (JMO), I paid it no mind because albeit the cases were cracked, the discs inside were very well protected, and to me, that's what counted.

One extra that's not listed on the box is "The Nanny Reunion: A Nosh to Remember" a 42-minute special produced by Lifetime in 2004. Drescher holds a get-together at her home for her former castmates (with the exception of Davis, who doesn't attend.) The friendly relationship between the actors is obvious as they chat and eat (joined by a special guest.) The best parts of the show are the bloopers and home videos they watch as part of the party. More of these would have been very welcome.

This special feature actually makes this set COMPLETE for me !!

It could have been that, per the pictures that you put up, there might have been a lack of space on the back of the box. That's just what I'm guessing.

Of course, it's only a 20-year-old videotaped show, so the picture isn't bad by any means... definitely not like the later Facts of Life seasons, or Three's Company, or other older videotaped series.

Episodes are usually around 23 minutes, so, uncut for the era.

Some CBS shows in the late-90s did this gimmick of Forrest Gumping their classic stars into then-current shows... Rod Serling in Early Edition, Rob Petrie in Diagnosis Murder, Lucy in The Nanny. All three scenes are missing on the shows' respective DVDs.

It may be rights issues causing the Lucy edit from The Nanny.

Oh, and there was a scene with Sylvia admitting to eating edible panties, but not being shown eating them. That may be what you're thinking of.

There is an actual scene with Sylvia eating the underwear.
I have seen two different edits of the wedding episodes; One begins with Maxwell and Niles in the kitchen before Fran is about to leave, and the episode ends with Fran, Sylvia and Val stranded on the roadside, with a "next time on the Nanny montage" following that. Part 2 begins with a "previously on the Nanny" montage, and a scene where Maxwell rescues the women from the roadside. Then it cuts to a scene with Fran and Val in bed.

The other copy includes the "eating panties" scene, and is edited differently.
Part 1 begins after the post-intro scene where Brighton and Maxwell are in the kitchen talking. It ends with Maxwell rescuing Fran, Sylvia and Val, then the short scene of Sylvia eating the edible panties (makes sense as they talked about them just prior to that). Part 2 begins with the scene where Maxwell and Niles are in the kitchen taking, and Fran is ready to leave (this took place first in the other edit).

I have a clip of the panties scene so it does exist.

Thanks for the review of the PQ. I wanted to pic up some seasons but wasn't sure if to go with the Sony releases, Mill Creek or the complete series by Shout. I think I am going the Sony route as the only season I want to so far is season 2. Not sure of the PQ of Mill Creek but so many episodes put in 2 disks is a bit much.
