I have rented my apartment for ten years, and my landlord only shows up when I need something fixed or (even rarer) when he needs to update something. But he lives about 15 miles away. The Ropers and Furley were up at the kids' place all the time borrowing food, cash, just visiting, etc.

Do any renters out there see their landlord every day? Is he/she friends with tenants? I'm curious as to if this sort of dynamic happens in real life (maybe less exaggerated, but still).

Yeah I never see that happen and it would also be seen as favoritism by the other building tenants with the landlord getting all chummy with the residents.

I'm definitely not close with mine. I don't even really talk to my neighbors much, other than saying hi.

My landlord and I are friends but we were never that close. Not like Furley and Ropers were to the trio. And he has never asked to borrow anything from me. It's only make believe. Even the Recardos and Mertzes were a little too chummy for real life.

Yeah, that's how I feel. I wonder how big a building it was in Three's Company. In one episode Mrs. Roper mentioned 306, so if there are six apartments on each floor, that's 18 units. I'm assuming R.F. and the Ropers couldn't be chummy with everyone.

It depends on the people, the number of units, and who owns the site. In the '70s, it wasn't uncommon, but with conglomerates taking over so many buildings, it's almost unheard of, now.

If I remember correctly, The Ropers and Furley lived under the trio,and only had to walk a flight of stairs to there apartment.Correct me if I am wrong.
There was many issues why they came around. Furley was seeing Lana go up there,and Furley was always trying to get a chance to hit on Lana.
There was also the reason that,mostly Mr.Roper,was trying to prove that Jack was not gay,and was up there to prove his point on that subject.
I do not remember them borrowing cash.In the Episode where they were working on the plumbing and listening through the pipe,supports my idea of upstairs downstairs.

I have had 3 different landlords and all were about business not being friendly

In British Columbia, a landlord needs to produce a written notice to enter a renter's apartment.

Not if they are smart :lol:

Of all the places I've rented (about 8 apartments in my lifetime), I only saw the actual landlord/property owner 25% of the time. It was always the property manager who collected the rent.
