Blue Bloods
This show used to be somewhat unique among cop shows, happily examining both sides of an issue to at least some degree. Indeed the show is even now subverting its own cliches, with Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) being forced to admit more than once that his way isn't the best way. Unfortunately the show also managed to air one of the dumbest episodes in television history: Loose Lips. It features one of the most transparent villains in CBS history (which is saying something since while CBS can produce complex characters they're still easily defined as 'good' or 'evil' basically all the time) who manages to get away with way too much, because a judge decided to read a teenage girl's Twitter feed and as a result decides to ignore the fairly solid case the prosecutor and mother of said girl has presented. The villain then proceeds to kidnap a cop using the tactic of 'pulling someone into an alley in broad daylight', which apparently works despite said cop being an established capable fighter. Our heroes then ram the car containing their kidnapped field at high speed and only though the power of Main Character Shieldstm manage to come out unscathed. I'm leaving out a fairly large amount of dumb as well, including that the show decides not to have the barrage of annoying smug characters face any punishment despite being hilariously in the wrong, thus failing to deliver what the audience would want to see or what would really happen. Loose Lips is easily a jump the shark episode, though bear in mind Happy Days, the show that invented shark-jumping, didn't quite die as soon as that happened. Either way, while I am still watching, the show's on thin ice (it's lucky Friday nights suck for TV generally).
