I just read Luckymama's article about Freddie and the Catholic Church. How sad that he gave up on the religion that he grew up with. I also grew up Catholic. With all the bad press the Catholic Churches are getting, I think he would probably tell us I told you so............. :confused: :confused: :confused:

I agree with ya. I was never Catholic but my dad was & left to become Presbyterian. So the only Catholic stuff I ever experienced was my Aunts & Uncle & Grandmas funerals & a few weddings. The funerals were in the 60's & early 70's back when everyone stood up & sat down every other minute & the mass was in latin & you had no idea what they were doing. I'm just so glad he never lost his faith in God. The article really inspired me.... :)

Jenny Lee, it hurt to read how Freddie was turned off by the the Catholic Church. I, too, was raised Catholic, still am a devout Catholic and even teach my religion in a local Catholic school. I have also been involved in the program at our church that helps adults become Catholic (RCIA). Jenny Lee, I'm sure you can remember, but at the time Freddie struggled with the church, the Catholic church was going through some MAJOR changes as well. It was a confusing time for many Catholics and many young people were turned off by our church because it seemed like a war between the old way of doing things and the new way (The second Vatican Council was in the early 60's). I could have been angry at Freddie for some of the things he said, but he was right about a lot of them. I only wish he had found a church like mine, who recognizes we are all on the same journey and none of us are perfect, just loved. I always thought, with his faith in God, that if he had found a faith family, of ANY denomination, they might have been there to help him understand what he was going through and supported him through the hard times. This isn't a discussion on religion, I know everyone's faith is a personal thing. I just wanted to add my 2 cents, for what it is worth. BTW I hope I have not offended anyone! I don't mean to.

I agree with your above quote there Mama! You didn't offend me. He needed a local church to support him. Instead he goes to a local church there in LA & they won't let him in cuz he didn't wear a tie with his suit. So sad. He would've loved the Presbyterian church we go to. They wouldn't have cared if he didn't wear a tie & would've accepted him. The very people he needed in his time of need were not there for him...

I understand Lucky. One thing about me, I will always have faith in Jesus. He is the one I turn to in times of trouble. I just wish I could tell Freddie personally.

There ar no partitions in Heaven we'll be together in our love of God and one another and that's the way it should be in any denomination.

I know how Freddie felt about the church. When I was a young teenager, church started feeling like a weekly "fashion show" where you had to wear the coolest clothes and accessories in order to feel like you belonged.
Give me a church any day that will welcome me in jeans and a preacher that practices what he preaches!

One thing I was very glad of, before Freddie passed, he recieved the Last Rites of Holy Mother Church.
