View Full Version : David's Solo Album Cherish, Very Underated!! eddie146 01-01-2015, 06:54 AM if you listen to his solo record some 44 years later(wow) it actually sounds even better now!! IMO ;) eddie146 01-09-2015, 12:13 AM blind hope is a great song 1960'sTVfan 01-09-2015, 12:40 AM The B side of the Cherish 45 RPM single is very good. Why it wasn't included on the album is beyond me. The song is called All I Wanna Do Is Touch You. Bonniegirl 01-09-2015, 12:53 AM It is a shame David Cassidy didn't get more TV or movie roles . He was so type cast as Keith Partridge singing with his Mom, younger brothers and sisters! A shame he couldn't have gotten more work after the Partridge family. He would have been taken more seriously. He had a nice voice, and he was a decent actor and cute! 1960'sTVfan 01-09-2015, 10:26 AM David Cassidy was given an opportunity to shake that Keith Partridge image. He starred in the 1978 Police Story movie A Chance To Live, which was well recieved by critics and David was nominated for an emmy for his performance. The movie was then spun off into a series, David Cassidy Man Undercover. But the series failed. The majority of fans didn't want to accept David as anything other than Keith Partridge, and the majority of the Man Undercover episodes were hindered by poor writing. The series got the ax after 10 episodes due to low ratings. um 12-13-2015, 01:24 PM David Cassidy was given an opportunity to shake that Keith Partridge image. Ricky Nelson wanted to sing songs that he wrote that were new and different, and in a concert in Madison Square Garden (NYC) he tried to leave his 1950s teen idol image behind but the crowd booed him because they wanted to hear his old hits and have him be the cute teen he was back then and reminisce. Essentially the same thing happened to David Cassidy. um 01-31-2016, 09:24 PM David Cassidy was given an opportunity to shake that Keith Partridge image. Also for the past several years David Cassidy has been doing what he has long said that he never wanted to continue to do, perform his hit bubble gum songs on stage. I guess he has to do it because it is what he can best make money on doing. David actually wanted to become a seriously-taken actor. The strange thing is that it seemed that after the cancellation of The Partridge Family his show business career slowly went in that direction with his appearance in Police Story ( which I never saw) and he even went on star in a Broadway play called Blood Brothers in which he starred with his brother Shaun. This was sometime in the 80s I believe, and I best recall that the play got basically-good reviews along with Davids's and Shaun's acting, but I don't know what happened afterward. It seemed that David could not continue doing movies and plays even if he proved himself in acting. I don't see how now, at his age he is going to revive his acting career. This actually happened to other teen idols. The Osmond Brothers actually never wanted to be a "boy band" and they wanted to be seriously-taken rockers but found themselves doing a variety TV show aimed at tweens. Donny Osmond now goes around performing his bubble gum classics on stage and his brothers sing old mellow songs from the 60s and 70s. David Cassidy performed with The Osmonds a few years back, all of them doing a "nostalgia" show together. I really think that David Cassidy grits his teeth at doing these concerts. He is not performing any new material (like Bruce Springsteen does) . No wonder David has to get drunk to go out there and perform songs he sang when he was just in his early to mid 20s. From some of the footage I have seen of his most recent performances (on YouTube) he just looks like a broken man. sad. https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/music/david-cassidy-still-on-tour-reflects-on-days-as-a-global-idol-im-grateful-for-it/2016/01/28/ec6dc8dc-c391-11e5-a4aa-f25866ba0dc6_story.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmTy3B9hMm4 um 03-17-2016, 03:35 PM David Cassidy was given an opportunity to shake that Keith Partridge image. The series got the ax after 10 episodes due to low ratings. It is coincidental that nearly the exact same thing happened with David's other attempt at a TV show in 1999 . It got good ratings and still after 10 episodes was cancelled. (Or that is what I best understand) http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/InPrintPages/Web2009Sept12.html um 04-01-2016, 08:34 PM if you listen to his solo record some 44 years later(wow) it actually sounds even better now!! By the way, didn't David Cassidy do a version of a song called "Signs"? It begins with the lyrics "..and the sign says long haired freaky people need not apply.." I know that a different rock band was primarily known for having had sung it, but I think I recall that David Cassidy's version was mostly on the radio back in the early 70s. Of course I might have been so young then that I don't have the right recollection now. If anyone can tell me please do. But if he did sing a version of that song, I certainly don't hear anything about it now. It seems to be one of his often-played songs of the 70s that gets no recognition now. Again I could be wrong. |
