View Full Version : Saturday Night Live 12/20/14 - Amy Adams and One Direction robyrob 12-20-2014, 10:01 PM What did you think of this episode? robyrob 12-21-2014, 04:34 PM OK - Cold Open: LOVE the return of Mike Myers as Dr Evil Monologue: meh - not really a fan of the musical monologues, but good to see Kristin Wiig (I just hope if she does an Update bit, its the one with the aunt that reviews stuff and not the one with Fred Armisen as the two idiots in Christmas sweaters that don't know the words to their songs - I hate that tired, repetitive bit). Asian American Doll commercial: I liked this one, Vanessa Bayer was good as the harried mom, especially the "you ask a lot of questions - now go outside and play" Family Video Christmas Card: this one was a little lame, but had a few funny lines. Serial: The Christmas Surprise: apparently this was based on a real podcast I've never heard of - totally irrelevant, but whatever. Cecily Strong was good, but this was too long. Beck Bennet is like this generation of SNL's Darryl Hammond - in that he's just sort of like an unassuming average white guy, but unlike Darryl Hammond he has no funny characters, can't do impressions or anything original or groundbreaking. Girlfriends Talk Show: meh again. I like Aidy Bryant in these sketches, but they are generally too repetitive; but this was even worse. This was just a stupid excuse to give One Direction more air time - I get it that if SNL is going to stay relevant and on the air, they need to trick kids into watching it, but geez. Office Christmas Party: this was alright but I think that they do they "shocking" gangsta rap send-ups of everyday events way too often. I did like Aidt Bryant taking out that tree Keifer-style. Weekend Update: Michael Che was on FIRE tonight, and Colin Jost read some cue cards. I thought it was good that Bobby did his Kim Jung Un bit, but it was pretty toothless. I love Keenan Thompson - it doesn't matter what the heck he does it always works, Willie is hilarious. Ugh Garth and Kat - I hate this bit. A Very Cuban Christmas: a little predictable but alright A Magical Christmas: weird but successful Whiskers R We: Kate MacKinnon was great. |
