View Full Version : Season 6
Scrabjan1 12-19-2014, 03:49 PM I found that Season 6 was a waste of time except for the episodes that concerned Eddie. Beaver was just a "big dumb kid." Tony wasn't very good in season 6, way too grown up) but you can tell that Tony thought Eddie saved the scene and the show.
I loved seeing Tony Dow in an episode of Mr. Novak back in 65 or 66 and he was a bad kid drinking beer.

It seems the entire show had become annoyingly polished and formal towards the end.
mets82 12-19-2014, 05:16 PM Maybe I shouldnt say this, but Beaver got goofy as he got older. He sounded different and acted more or less like a goof. Besides, I liked Larry Mondello over Gilbert Bates. Gilbert was more of an antagonist.
1960'sTVfan 12-19-2014, 05:37 PM I like season 6, many good episodes but the whole season does sort of have a "tired" feel to it, it has the vibe like the series is coming to an end. I think they ended it at just the right time, with Wally graduating from high school and Beaver graduating from grammar school. After 6 seasons and 234 episodes, the series had run it's course.
Tankeryanker 12-22-2014, 11:09 PM Seems to me that it would have been better to just let Beaver grow up and show him just being normal in the 8th grade.
MichaelMartinD 12-27-2014, 12:05 PM I disagree! I like Season 6, not so much for Beaver, but for the plots involving Wally and his friends. To me Season 6 has a festive feel to it, not tired at all. I like the jazzed up theme music too.
Scrabjan1 12-28-2014, 11:34 AM I agree they needed a season 6 to show Wally thinking of college and all the trouble that adolescents get into like racking up a big balance in a record club, letting "friends" tell you what to do that makes family problems and girl trouble. Eddie was a great character in season 5 and 6. Gilbert was a dopey character but needed in order to get Beaver in trouble. Whitey was there the longest. He was in Beaver's Crush and Beaver Sees America.

Watching season 6, I enjoyed most of those episodes specifically the ones with Wally and the fraternity and scholarship. A possible good spin off of LITB season 6 could have been centered around college life with Lump, Eddie and Wally in a frat. The 1960s fraternity life was crazy....something like the Animal House.
Scrabjan1 12-29-2014, 03:13 PM I think Ken Osmond could have had his own series. He was very versatile but maybe he needed Tony and Frank Bank to make it work. Actually I think it could have been called Leave it To Eddie. Jerry would have been happy doing vocals and guitar for his short lived band, Beaver and the Trappers. UGH
1960'sTVfan 12-29-2014, 03:28 PM I like the 6th seasons jazzy version of the theme song also. But to me, the season as a whole has the vibe like the whole thing is winding down and coming to an end. But season 6 isn't without it's good episodes, Wally's Pratical Joke is one of my favorites from the season.
Scrabjan1 12-31-2014, 01:30 PM My favorites from Season 6 were Box Office Attraction, Bachelor At Large, Alaskan Summer and Beaver's Good Deed.
MickeyMac 12-31-2014, 03:09 PM I disagree. There were a couple of duds, but overall season 6 was a good season.

Yes, that would have worked. I would have like to see Wally stay his steady self yet still have fun. Maybe Lumpy could almost get expelled or something.
