View Full Version : Case of dead mother in car--naked ghost along road?
Fox Mulder 12-18-2014, 01:06 AM There was a case of this woman and her young son, the mother fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a tree, dying on impact, the boy survived but stayed in the car. A day or so later another family was traveling along the same road when they saw the nude body of a woman lying alongside the road which alerted them to it--in the end the sighting caused the boy to be found.
Anyone have any idea what episode this was?
LooksLikeCRicci 12-18-2014, 01:20 AM Crap. I remember the segment vividly. If you look at the Expanded Epusode Guide, I'm sure you can find it.

February 21, 1997. Christine and Nick Skubish.
RobinW 12-18-2014, 08:19 AM This is one of my favourite ghost segments. Even if you don't see believe in the ghost sighting, it's still a pretty amazing story and quite a remarkable coincidence that another motorist would have a vision of a naked woman right next to the spot where the Skubishs' car went down a ravine. It's estimated that the boy would have only survived for another hour or so if the police hadn't found the car when they did.

Completely agree. As one can probably tell from my numerous recent posts, I'm not a big fan of the paranormal stories that UM featured. However, this one REALLY was pretty phenomenal. I'm glad that Nick was discovered and went on to live a pretty normal life, at least to my understanding. I know he went on another paranormal type show to talk about his experience. Can't remember which one it was, though.
Necco 12-18-2014, 02:20 PM This is one of the few paranormal stories that I wholeheartedly believe.
Something happened.
Something saved Nick.
I don't know what or how, but I know who - his mother.
James T 12-18-2014, 02:49 PM So why would a ghost wanting to save her son wait five days to for some reason appear nude at the side of the road? Wouldn't it be more likely if ghosts exist that she would want her child to be found as soon as possible?
Is it not more likely that the child climbed up to summon help-dehydrated he likely removed his clothes & returned when he could not find help? He even says he believes he did this in an interview.
Cris: You remember making it to the road?
Nick: Yes. I definitely got up to the road a couple times.
Cris: Is it possible the naked body people saw was you?
Nick: I don’t know. Honestly, I don’t ever remember laying up there, but anything is possible. I just remember what I remember, and other people saw what they say they saw.
LooksLikeCRicci 12-18-2014, 04:13 PM Not saying it's not possible, but the eyewitness in the UM segment was positive they saw a naked lady.
I know there's lots of problems with eyewitness testimony, but I think there's a big difference between a naked woman and a naked three year old boy.
Been a while since I saw the segment-- didn't the gal see the naked woman at night? And described a glow about her?
I could very well be confusing this with Resurrection Mary. Lord knows I've seen that segment a few times. :)
LilMissKryssy 12-18-2014, 05:18 PM Quote from an article in June of 1994
"Strasser said that Christene Skubish probably died instantly.
The boy was covered with scratches and had blisters from exposure to poison oak, Nichols-Daniels said.
Strasser had spotted the boy's tennis shoe on the side of the highway Saturday, and then found the car. He believes the boy at some point climbed from the car to the highway, and then returned to the car. That is the only explanation for the shoe being on the road, Strasser said."
So, in all probability Nick had climbed out of the car naked (as the article also stated Nick was found naked in the car) but then retreated to what a 3 year old might consider safety, the car with his mom. Maybe it was dark when he did and he got scared or when no other adults were around he retreated to the car to be with his mom.
This is a excerpt from Nicks interview
Cris: Tell me what you remember.
Nick: I remember almost every night; I don’t remember the days too much, but I remember the night we wrecked. I remember the car flipping. I remember hitting tree after tree after tree… And I remember when the roof of the car got ripped off. I remember seeing my mom. I remember getting out of the car. I remember climbing up that forty-foot embankment and sliding down on pine needles. I remember seeing the lights. I remember every night, pretty much. I just don’t remember the days at all. If anything, I feel like I was sleeping, but I don’t remember the days at all.
It appears from both accounts he did get out of the car and climb back up to the road. What the woman saw though...I have no clue

As you say eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable. That person may well have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs or both & it being dark he mistook what he saw as a result.
This story was about as daft as the JonBenet being murdered by a polt thread. People would rather believe a woman dies in a crash & comes back as a ghost 5 days later to save her son-is there some time limit for dead people to return? Because I would hope a dead mother would be raising the alarm right away with their young child out there.
The most logical explanation is a dehydrated child taking their clothes off & trying to get help & likely passing out or falling asleep, being spotted & then waking up & going back to his mother. One person saved him & it was himself by being spotted.

Hey, man, making the transition from life to death is rough! :D
I'm sure Nick DID get to the roadside, as other posters have said. This is evidenced by his shoe being on the side of the road. I agree that he was found naked. He very well could have been the one that was seen by the passing motorist. Doesn't change the fact that this segment is still one of my favorite "ghost stories" that UM featured.
Way better than Alan and his possessed wife. Muah ha ha ha ha!
James T 12-18-2014, 05:51 PM Oh yes-that one was appallingly funny. The one that got me was the burning bunk beds-that was a creepy one.
Necco 03-10-2015, 01:31 PM Not quite as dramatic as lying naked on the side of the road, but this case is similarly eerie and comforting at the same time.

wiseguy182 03-10-2015, 03:08 PM I am very thankful the baby girl survived, although I'm shocked she did. And what was with the rescuers hearing a woman's voice? Maybe miracles really do happen...

Retrofitting most likely-maybe some of them have religious fervour.

The earliest reports said that they heard a noise and that's how they found the baby, so I'm not sure it is retrofitting. Could it have been some sort of animal making the noise? Sure. But I like to believe it was the mom.

I like to believe the animal theory, or overactive imaginations/inaccurate reporting.
