The Fox comedy, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, had a splashy debut last year with its two Golden Globe Awards for Best TV series and Best Performance by an actor for its star Andy Samberg. But with a move from Tuesdays to Sundays, Brooklyn Nine-Nine has lost some of its cache of viewers. The show’s snub from the recent Golden Globe nominations is proof that something has gone terribly wrong. With these few suggestions, Brooklyn Nine-Nine can re-establish itself as one of the best sitcom’s on television.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine starring Andy Samberg airs on Fox Sundays at 8:30 pm ET.
More Sandra Bernhard Appearances
Comedian Sandra Bernhard is the perfect actress to play Gina’s mother. And her romance with Boyle’s father is just too awkward for the two to take. Making Sandra’s role a recurring role instead of a guest-starring role could add more definition to the show; and Sandra always delivers the laughs.
Move Back to Tuesdays between New Girl and The Mindy Project
Why in the world did Fox move Brooklyn Nine-Nine to Sunday and bury it in the 8:30 time slot? It’s hard to understand the logic in doing this to a hit show. It’s time to move Brooklyn Nine-Nine back to Tuesday nights and place it right between the other Fox hits: New Girl and The Mindy Project. Fox can publicize the change as an all-comic Tuesday night and Brooklyn Nine-Nine will be able to access its past audience members along with additional viewers from New Girl and The Mindy Project.
Why all the Cop Chases? Downplay the Gunplay
Yes, we realize that Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a cop show, but more importantly, it is a comedy. Cop chases are most useful in a dramatic series. When Brooklyn Nine-Nine employs the action, the comedy suffers. There are still plenty of cop situations that can take place for the audience to buy without the chasing and brandishing of weapons.
Will Any SNL Alumni be Stopping by? Where’s Bill Hader?
With the casting of Andy Samberg it is almost expected to see some of his SNL alumni stopping by for a guest spot. Bill Hader would be the perfect actor to book. He could play a serial killer that has a day job of cleaning the precinct. While Jake (Andy Samberg) and the other detectives are busy trying to nab the killer, they could also be annoyed by their overly clean janitor.
Provide Santiago (Melissa Fumero) with a Love Interest
Yes, we get it. Santiago is a tough female cop. But she is also pretty hot! Santiago needs an actor that is just as hot as she is to put her off balance. It would also be fun to see how Santiago deals with all the trappings of love. A tie in to a Valentine’s show would be perfect timing as well.
