My Sister has been suffering from, what she calls, anxiety disorder. She has had irregular heartbeat, can't sleep and she has anxiety and panic attacks. It just started coming on. She thought she was losing her mind, because anxiety can do that to you. She finally, after 2 weeks, went to see her doctor about it. Turns out, that excessive consumption of caffeine is the problem.

My sister drinks allot of Tea, and she likes it thick with allot of caffeine. She will boil a half gallon of water, put 8 to 10 bags for a half gallon, wait till it cools in the fridge and then add a cup of sugar. Then she drinks the half gallon in less than a day and will make more. I've seen her drink nearly a gallon in a day. No wonder why she's flipping out. It took her a couple of visits for her doctor to discover what the problem was. Turns out that caffeine can even kill you, if you drink it the way my sister does.

When your moving around, like cleaning house, the caffeine helps you move better. But she sits allot at her computer, as her business is online, so she does't move much or get much exercise. When her doctor told her that what she's doing could stop her heart, she got the message and is backing off from the tea.

I guess is most cases, a person can consume as much as four 8oz cups. But anything after that is pushing it. She drinks black tea which has 120mg of caffeine for 8 ounces.

Oh yes for sure. Your sister needs to really cut down on that if she is having anxiety problems. I used to drink ALOT of coffee, at all hours of the day too! I always had problems with insomnia and I'm a high strung person, but nothing could take my beloved coffee from me! Lately though, my blood pressure has come up high , and I seriously cut back on my coffee intake. Now just one or two at the most, and only when I first wake up. If I have two cups I don't even have a diet coke or Dr. Pepper in the afternoon, only if I have one cup will I indulge in that. I feel I am sleeping better! Last thing I need is a racing heart with high blood pressure, don't want to end up with a heart attack!

My son drinks a lot of those high caffeine drinks in a can. He suffers from insomnia, and is on meds for bipolar disorder and panic attacks. I keep telling him to cut out the caffeine. But he won't listen. I don't know if his doctor has told him this. But will he listen to reason? No , he is addicted to the stuff. So there's really nothing else I can do but nag him.:p

Oh no Marlene, that isn't good! :( I don't believe in all those new caffeine drinks like Red Bull that the young people are into these days! They are even drinking vodka mixed with Red Bull at the clubs!

Esp Marlene your son being on that medication and having insomnia, I know it's hard, you don't want to nag, but maybe you should stay on him about it. ;)

That is way too much caffeine. I agree about not nagging him. I'm afraid it would only make him want to drink them even more out of spite.

Penny lane, if he endures heart issues because of it, and I hope he doesn't, most likely he will chose life over caffeine. My sister was the same way and she chose life.

And the funny thing is Bonnie, she would have never guessed it was the caffeine. She didn't think it was that dangerous. She's feeling better now. She is cutting back to one 16oz glass a day.
