View Full Version : Wonder how "Lucy" did in the ratings last night?
MichaelKeith 12-08-2014, 11:31 AM Did anyone watch the Christmas episode on CBS last evening? I wonder how it did in the ratings. I know last year the airing of the Xmas show won its time slot.
It was great to see the episode job switching colorized. This is a show that needs the whole series colorized. And on top of that, CBS needs to sell both the B&W and color versions so that fans can choose which they want.:D
tlc38tlc38 12-08-2014, 11:57 AM I watched! "Job Switching" looked sparkly and new! I really don't want them to colorize the entire series. I enjoy only getting one new color episode a year; it makes it more special and a Christmas treat. I hope next year we get "The Freezer" in color!
It doesn't look like their releasing the color version of "Job Switching" on DVD. They'll probably wait until next year and release it with a new episode.

Actually it will be out tomorrow in the Christmas DVD of I Love Lucy…the DVD will be re released by Target only with the colorized version of Job Switching. I DVR the show last night but might re-buy the DVD for that one episode in color.

I did. I'm hoping it won the time slot again.
Given the general (dismal) quality of today's T.V. shows - wouldn't it be great if CBS colourized I LOVE LUCY and aired episodes in it's prime time line-up? I can see them airing season by season - and hopefully the show once again earning top ratings. :)
It would be great as a family show in the 8:00 EST time slot.
Ron Ron 12-08-2014, 01:06 PM Ratings for last night….
CBS: "I Love Lucy Christmas Special" (9.4 million, 5.7/9)
icecream 12-08-2014, 01:13 PM I Love Lucy matched the 1.4 it got in the demo last year but fell to 4th in its timeslot with a lot steeper competition. It was 2nd in viewers (9.36 million) but the 18-49 demo is what counts to advertisers. Sunday Night Football and Once Upon a Time always do well, and The Simpsons is fueled by a direct football lead-in (1.5 last week but went up to 2.8 this week helped by football.) Also, I Love Lucy was delayed 17-19 minutes in several markets with football that ran late on CBS affiliates, so it didn't start when it was scheduled everywhere.

I'm sure CBS is happy with the numbers. It is the same numbers that a more expensive show like Madam Secretary gets in the demos and ILL had higher demos and rating than The Mentalist and CSI.

Oh thanks for the info. I don't have a Target in my area so I'll have to buy it online.

Only Target will carry the extra Job Switching episode. That's the only way to get that episode in color.

You could order from Target online but make sure you get the new re-release from this year and not last years.
tlc38tlc38 12-08-2014, 01:35 PM ^yeah, I ready own the old version, I don't need another copy of it.
ChrisTV 12-08-2014, 02:14 PM Will the new dvd have unedited episodes?
Last nights episodes were edited.
comedyfreak 12-08-2014, 03:21 PM I watched last night and teared up during the flashback scene which showed how Ricky found out Lucy was having a baby. Job Switching was also fun to see in color. I'll buy the dvd.

Smilings 12-08-2014, 07:41 PM I thought Job Switching was helped by color.
The pink uniform contrasted nicely with the little brown gobs of chocolate zipping by.
I also imagine it was pretty easy to colorize because instead of elaborate colorful costumes and special settings, this was work uniforms and plain walls.
I hope CBS sees colorizing is a great way to pull in a prime-time audience for little cost.
Why stop with Christmas?
How about an I Love Lucy Valentine Day special. Colorize Ep 15 Lucy Plays Cupid or maybe Ep 99 The Matchmaker and one other one not related?
tlc38tlc38 12-08-2014, 08:44 PM There's so many classic episodes I'd like them to colorize but these are my top picks:
"Be a Pal"
"The Freezer"
"Pioneer Women"
"Lucy Does a TV Commercial"
"The Operetta"
"Lucy Tells the Truth"
"Lucy is Envious"
"California, Here We Come!"
"L.A. at Last!"
"Lucy Raises Chickens"
"Lucy Raises Tulips"
Ron Ron 12-08-2014, 08:54 PM I'd love to see the first season released in color. Id buy it.

Great list. I'd add "Lucy Meets Harpo Marx"
and "Lucy and the Loving Cup" where she gets her head stuck in the trophy that's to be presented to jockey champ Johnny Longden.
What Lucys would you like to see in color?
ILuvCarolBurnett 12-09-2014, 02:16 AM It would have done better had CBS promoted it like they should have.

So how did you find out? Plus, does that mean we get the Christmas ep and the Job Switching? Will there be the Grape stomping as well or is that just another package with the Christmas ep?

Its exclusive to Target. You can get it at WalMart but it won't have the Chocolate Factory episode in color.

Yeah. I was! There are four copies on the shelf and one from last year. Here in New York City, Walmart cannot open a store. The closest one to me is on the edge (geographically) of Long Island and on the very thin, outskirts of Queens, NYC. My friend lives at the edge of Queens, NYC and I visit him, I can walk over to the Walmart in four or five minutes. By car, one can get there in 45 seconds. LOL. Whoever decided to build the store there was very smart. Its like Walmart is right there on the outskirts/border teasing the merchants and consumers that live in New York. Ha Ha!

Thats a nice quick trip to Walmart….lol. I actually like Walmart better than Target but sometimes one has an exclusive over the other where DVDs are concerned. And Walmart still has more variety in their DVDs than Target. Although Target's sales on DVDs lately have been greater than Walmart.
The Walmart in my area is about 10 min away with Target being about an hour away.
ThomasE 12-10-2014, 03:03 PM Well, Target is right down the street from me. It is in my neighborhood. It is very convenient for me.
mets82 12-10-2014, 04:11 PM Not to throw cold water or anything, but did anyone think that the color episodes were edited? I dont know why, maybe I'm used to how they air on TVLand but it I thought how they went into the commerical breaks seemed edited to me.
Would anyone be willing to pick one of these up for me? We don't have "Target" in my area and the website makes no mention of the version they're selling having the bonus disc. I would be happy to PayPal money to cover the dvd and the shipping or even send a .pdf label that you can just print out and tape on!
Coffeecup 12-10-2014, 10:37 PM Oh Darn, I missed the show. I didn't see or hear advertising to tell me it was on.. Even though I have seen the black and white a zillion times, it would have been neat to see the color version.
Ron Ron 12-13-2014, 10:36 PM Just checked and the episode last week was edited. There is a whole scene with Ricky cooking breakfast to Lucy that was left out.
ChrisTV 12-13-2014, 10:38 PM Yes. both episodes were edited by about 1-2 mins.
Hope the DVDs are complete.

Yes the DVD is complete and includes the scene with Lucy and Ricky in the kitchen eating breakfast. The run time is over 25 min.
TeeVeeCloset 12-13-2014, 11:16 PM Yes the DVD is complete and includes the scene with Lucy and Ricky in the kitchen eating breakfast. The run time is over 25 min.
Yes picked up my special target version today, just watched the bonus disc containing "Job Switching" running a total of 24:55. It comes with the option of watching either black & white or the new beautiful color. Also its own mini DVD cardboard top load glossy sleeve which is attached inside the outer sleeve shrinkwrapped cardboard. So they didn't even need to print up anything new regarding last years case/artwork......just has exclusive target sticker says contains bonus DVD.
The DVD easily fits into the case once opened, but to be honest it's prone to shoplifting, as if you slip the outer cardboard case out and then slit the skrinkwrap from bottom, the bonus DVD will just slip out. I DO NOT advise this for moral reasons, etc plus it would hurt actual sales or someone who purchases it and finds it missing. Obviously this is a nice very rushed Christmas bonus from CBS/Paramount releasing an actual uncut version 2 days after the CBS airing and it costs only 9.99, so well worth having two copies basically.

Just like last year. A lot of folks were watching the New England-San Diego game that night, which was the number one show of the week. The fact that I Love Lucy still managed to wind up in 16th place, even though it was directly opposite that game in much of the country, says a lot.
Smilings 12-16-2014, 01:45 AM And CBS is showing it again Christmas Eve.
I hope CBS gives us more colorized Lucy.
Good to know it will be rerun, as I missed "Job Switching." Last year's rerun scored a 0.7 demo rating, so can't expect much viewing on Christmas Eve.
