I think it's time to start talking to those starving writers. The ones who have great stories but studios don't want to take a chance on. The screen writers now have lost their way.

Studios are only out to make money and they know that they can rely on the big budget superhero mindless action movie, the friendly safe Disney/Pixar flick and the latest remake/reboot of a well known franchise.

The artsy fartsy flicks that get critical raves just don't generate the box office which is why they get funded by independant studios.

I agree Mace Dolex. Straight to video movies are better than most of the movies that come to theaters. I've seen a lot of good straight to video movies and I don't know why people diss straight to video movies because they're low budget. So what if they're low budget. It's just like I hear some people complaining about good old actors that are doing straight to video movies like Robert Deniro, Cuba Gooding Jr, Jean Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Bruce Willis, Forest Whitaker, Ray Liotta, Dennis Haysbert, Danny Glover, Nicolas Cage, Christian Slater. So what if they do straight to video movies. These guys aren't doing it just for the money. If they were doing it for the money, they wouldn't do straight to video movies because those movies don't make a lot of money. Most people don't support straight to video movies. Actors that are doing straight to video movies are doing them because they love acting. I do think that Robert Deniro needs to retire because he should have a lot of money that he can live on. He's very old. He did a few movies that came to theaters last year. Danny Glover should also retire.

Also many times you don't even have to rent to straight to DVD movies. You can usually get many of them on Netflix for one low monthly fee

Really? I didn't know that. I go to the video store in Maryland because that's the only one left in the area LOL. I'm glad it's still open but they also sell pornos hahahahahahahahahaha. The white guy who owns the store told me most of his men customers get pornos instead of movies. I can't say I'm surprised. It's really sad that there's so many men that are perverts when it comes to women. I've never watched pornos. The video store I go to charges only $3 for new and old movies. I'm gonna go there tomorrow because there's some new movies I wanna rent. Bruce Willis, John Cusack, Jason Patric, rapper 50 Cent did a movie. I don't remember the name but I wanna see it. James Franco and Kate Hudson also did a movie I'm gonna rent tomorrow. I'm also gonna rent Tammy with Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon and The November Man with Pierce Brosnan.

I've also noticed that some straight to video movies have more substance than movies that come to theaters. When I say substance, I'm talking about stuff that's important. That's why some old actors are doing straight to video movies because some of the movies they do deal with real life issues. For whatever reason, most movies that come to theaters don't deal with real life issues and that's what some people wanna see. People sometimes don't wanna always see movies like science fiction, comedy and comic book stuff. It's really sad that Blockbuster Video stores don't exist anymore and I hate these Redbox movie vending machines. I miss going to Blockbuster and browsing the shelves. The internet has made a lot of movie fans lazy and that's why Blockbuster and small video stores are gone.

Yeh as long as you got a good Internet connection you can stream videos off of Netflix. It's only 7.99 a month for me. But if your new, I think they offer a free trial for 2 weeks or so. They have lots of good movies and hard to find ones as well.

Flying Dutchman, I wanted to get your opinion about old actors that do straight to video movies and do you think straight to video movies that deal with real life issues are better than the movies that come to theaters. I saw The Prince this weekend which was a new straight to video movie with Bruce Willis, John Cusack, Jason Patric, rapper 50 Cent and it was good. It was about Jason's daughter got kidnapped by Bruce who was a bad guy. Jason used to work for the government and he had some good fighting skills. John Cusack is his friend and he helps him find his daughter. Jason also gets his daughter's female friend to help him find her. His daughter's friend is cute and I've never seen her.

John Cusack and 50 Cent also did another straight to video movie called The Frozen Ground which also stars Nicolas Cage and it's good. John is a bad guy and he kidnaps women and kills them. Vanessa Hudgens is also in this and he kidnapped her but she gets away. Nicolas plays a cop that's going after John and 50 Cent plays a pimp who has long hair hahahahahahahahahahaha. I've never seen John play a bad guy. John has a new straight to video movie coming out this month called Reclaim with Ryan Philippe and John is a bad guy. I wanna see it.

I like some of them. Usually they are the smaller budget pictures that go straight to video. Nicholas Cage hasn't been doing very good movies lately and many people I've talk with don't want to spend money to go see his movies anymore. John Cusack rarely does play a bad guy, but he can do them well.

I wonder if its only a matter of time till we start seeing guys like Tom Cruise and/or Adam Sandler who havent had big hits lately (or good movies) start doing the straight-to-DVD route.

Don't be surprised if they do Mace Dolex because that's what's happening with old actors. A lot of old actors have a hard time doing movies that can come to theaters. So they do straight to video movies because the movie companies that do movies that come to theaters think they're too old and they can't make the company a lot of money anymore. So what if the movies don't make a lot of money? Why does the movie and music industry always gotta be about how much money can they make? Plus I've noticed that straight to video movies are better than most movies that come to theaters because straight to video movies are independent films and they deal with real life issues which is what people wanna see sometimes. People don't always wanna see the fantasy, horror and silly movies that come to theaters. If Tom Cruise decided not to act anymore, I would be fine with that because he's done a lot of movies and he's had a good career. Sometimes old actors still do movies because they love acting and it's not about the money to them and I like that mentality. Working doesn't always have to be about money.
