Hey HD fans happy holidays by the way, question how is season 6 of happy days going so far any improvement or disappointments wherefore I will not get into I hope Todd post up the review of season 6

I'm on the second disk already and so far, I'm LOVING it. I forgot so many of these episodes, and I think season six is one of Happy Day's STRONGEST season's yet....minus the hokey 3 part dude-ranch story-line that kicked off the season. But once that was over....the episodes are GREAT.

I've only noticed one part where it appears that a song was cut out, the scene kicks in right as everyone is clapping and Al thanks the band for playing. But I was happy to see that the whole MONSTER MASH song made it in the Halloween episode. I've always loved their fun twist on it.

The picture quality is great but I agree the Dude Ranch 3 part episodes feel more like a movie special instead of a regular episode.

I HATED that DUDE RANCH 3 part episode. I thought it was HORRIBLE for many reasons. Fonz acted like a JERK to Richie the whole time, and then Fonz (OUT OF NO WHERE) KNOWS how to ride a wild bull? In my opinion, this was TRULY the Jump the Shark episode and was WAY worse than the Shark. At Least with the shark you can CLEARLY see Henry Winkler KNEW how to ACTUALLY WATER SKI (for reasons not explained) but HOW does Fonz know how to ride a bull? Or are they saying there is absolutely NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED by anyone required just pure Luck or "Cool" as it were to accomplish this task? SO SILLY.

While I don't love the dude ranch eps, this is one of my favorite seasons for the simple reason it was somewhere in the middle of this season I started watching HD as it aired. Only watched some so far as I'm trying to stretch this out. Seems to be the same strategy as season 5 so far, songs performed by the cast are in there, with but some other stuff has been replaced. Edit: watching a ep now and there is original music playing. So whatever the ratio, looks like there is more original music present than season 5.

Hey I have a question and I hate t bring this up, so far after hearing how great the dvd is please tell me what original music is actually being played and as for all of the band performances is what they are showing on the dvd which was cut in syndication I hope that Todd will put the reviews up but it takes time but is all of the original music intact

I really can't answer that. I have no way to tell what's original and what isn't. I don't have anything to compare this to. Maybe someone else can help.

Today, I watched FONZIE'S FUNERAL from season 6, and I forgot about the guest appearance from the Laverne & Shirley cast. Laverne, Shirley, Lenny, Squiggy and Carmine show up at Fonzie's funeral and the results are HYSTERICAL.

This episode alone is worth the entire season. Some REALLY great episodes in season six.

Haven't watched that yet, especially as it's a two parter. But this is really great under rated season, IMO that is dragged down by the dude ranch eps. Another great one is the "The Duel" where, while no punches are thrown we really get a glimpse of how formidable The Fonz is. I also happened to still have my original tape from TV Land for what is essentially the last 4 episodes of season 6. With only that for comparison it is still REALLY tough to tell where there are replacements as it's obvious some music was already replaced even in those airings.

Just compared the DVD and my TV land copy side. "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "The Great Pretender" are replaced with sound a likes. "Great Pretender" is also replaced in "The Duel".

Included so far: Band & Leather Tuscadero performances intact

"Great Pretender" and "Blueberry Hill" played one episode. (Cassonava Cunningham)
"Poison Ivy" Instrumental played in one episode
(Sweet Sixteen)

"The Twist" played in one episode
(Stolen Melodies)

Everything else is so far replaced. The odd thing is while it's great to hear a tad more of original music I'm wondering if the two songs particularly "The Great Pretender" getting through was some sort of error. I've never seen something like that before, where a song is used in one episode but replaced in the rest.

It seems to me even though I didn't buy the dvd that besides Great Pretender an Blue HIll that Cbs/paramont does it again but ill leave that alone im not going to mess up anybody party but I wish they could have done more Shout Factory strike a deal with CBS/Paramount to released the complete series please

All of the bank performances seem to there as I've said many times.
While I'd love to see a Shout Factory or Star Vista Set, their strategy has been to complete series. With HD clocking in at 11 seasons, the set would be every, very pricey. Think about it. WKRP with only 4 seasons is $120. Maybe if it was split into volumes with 3 or 4 seasons in a volume.

I kind of disagree with you only from this aspect an im happy that you took WKRP for example an allow me to go further when Fox Century had released WKRP and everything was everybody went crazy because of what was replace and believe me I think that WKRP was a difficult series to obtain certain music rights I get that but if you look at what shout factory had did by taking it upon themselves to released the complete series an I am sure that through social media they felt that classic shows should be shown in their original airing an I give then allot of credit because they told their fans on the that they cleared as much music as they could an tried their best to included everything but they could nt do it an they were honest the same thing with Time Life who did the wonder years an they cleared every song wherefore I presumed that they had to spend millions of dollars clearing everything my point to you is that Shout an Time are tired of seeing these studios releasing dvd wherefore at the same time they are not showing an effort wherefore like Fonzie coming to the rescue an when it comes to releasing classic shows I rather put in the hands of shout factory or a Time Life because they no how to do it an they listen to what people have to say an this is why studios dvd do not sell again I rather see outside source putting out the best an shout an time life has proven that. I agree that all the band performances are there.

The only episode that appears to be edited was the Mork episode.... not that it's terribly edited (just short of 25 minutes)....

When they do the "montage" scenes during that episode there is replacement music.

Also noticed that in the episode "Marion: Fairy Godmother" episode that while Marion and Joanie are teaching Leather to be more lady-like ...the music is replaced there as well. (was it "Personality" that was originally played in this part?)

I wonder how they got away with using the songs in the first place back in the 1970s? And still the music was left in the show in re-runs? Is there a statute of limitations for copyright or registered trademark or whatever the music artist complaint is? How does this work?

I'm not an expert, but my guess is that they licensed the music rights for TV airing only, not anticipating that there would be home video years and decades down the line.

Because DVD is a physical format and most likely not defined or mentioned in those original TV-only licensing agreements, it has to be negotiated separately.

It's too bad they're not willing to spend the money to restore the original music and the original feel of those classic episodes.

Hey not to cut In but now you all see as well as witness for yourself of how outside companies such as Shout Mills Creek an Time Life are so important for shows like these an to me they no how to get the clearance not just to some but all orginal footage an this is why I trust shout factory a bit more the same with Time Life because one could have only imagination the hell that they must have gone through to clear the rights for The Wonder Years China Beach an WKRP but they all knew what the fans of these shows wanted an I give shout a lot of credit because they admitted that when they got WKRP they tried their best to get as much music as they could but couldn't but it showed that they were honest but they were able to retain 90 percent of the original track WKRP from what I read was the hardest show to do CBS shows again which im not going to get into but shout is the only hope in a future dvd series with all intact agree or disgree

I found all of season 6 on You Tube and was able to save some money. I saw season 7 but it was tv-land .

also I notice on Westword Ho they showed Rich, Fonzie and Thunder riding into the sunset first time I have seen that since the beginning

One great thing about season 6 is that Chachi was missing for a big chunk of it. Scott Baio moved over to NBC to do a family show. He was removed from the opening credits. The NBC show was cancelled and Baio sadly returned to Happy Days and Chachi was even more obnoxious.

The show you're referring to, Who's Watching The Kids, was also produced by Garry Marshall, so it was no risk for Baio. Either way, he won and we lost!

It's not gonna happen. It would have been released by now. With everything streaming, that's the only way you're gonna see season 7...or on a retro station like MeTV.
