Ron Ron 12-01-2014, 08:56 PM I'm getting it directly from Shout!! They have a big sale going on now with coupons and I am getting one too which I will use to lower the price of the DVD. The price is not too bad…..
If you haven't bought season 1 of the show ..the seasons come out to 21 dollars per season and if you have season 1 then the seasons come out to 25 dollars for(per) the 5 seasons.
Ron Ron 12-01-2014, 08:57 PM I want it an month early in February…LOL
BigManMike 12-01-2014, 09:42 PM And I hear Mill Creek is re releasing Season 1 on February 3. I don't know why anyone would want to get that. This complete series is much better.

Ron, what coupons are you referring to? I checked their website and there is no mention of any coupons that I was able to find. Thanks.

Each day Shout will have a link to click on to get a coupon code. Once you click on it they will email you a coupon code after you supply your email. The first one for today is for either free shipping or 3.00 dollar shipping depending on how much you spend and if u spend a certain amount they will give you 25 dollar coupon. The coupon for tomorrow will be different than todays.
If you ordered the Jeffersons from them or TFOL there will be a coupon for 15 dollars off…thats the one i am going to use for Maude unless I can get a better coupon this week during their sale.
quincywagstaff 12-01-2014, 10:05 PM Thank you very much!
tlc38tlc38 12-02-2014, 12:38 AM I trust that Shout! will handle this show with care especially when it comes to the music issues. I can't wait to get more details about the release.

You're right TLC--I am hyperventilating LOL. OMG! I have waited SO long for this day! Maude is my favorite show ever and this is one instance where I bit the bullet and pre-ordered from Shout early despite the exorbitant shipping cost to Canada.
I really hope they can clear all the music. There were several telethon/talent show episodes as well as other instances of songs sung by the characters. To me, the most important are Carol's steamy version of "Fever" in "Musical '78", all the female cast singing "I Am Woman" in "Tuckahoe Bicentennial", Maude singing and quoting lyrics from "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree" in "The Tax Audit" and Carol humming "The Hustle" in "Walter's Ethics". If these are cut, some awesome jokes go with them.
I hope Shout can pull it off, though they did amazingly well with Designing Women, so I have faith.
p.s. An insider @ HomeTheaterForum told us two of the Lear shows would be getting this treatment. Unfortunately, this probably means One Day isn't happening, but perhaps they will change their minds and at least resume with Seasons 2-4 which are among the best anyway.

You're right. Shout! did do an excellent job on the "Designing Women" releases and those had quite a bit of music.
I have a gut feeling that we'll see more and more awesome releases from Shout! in the future. I also think we'll see more Norman Lear released.
Don't forget, StarVista also has not announced what their big release of 2015 will be. They did announce seasons 1-5 of "The Carol Burnett Show" but I'm not sure if this is all we'll see from them next year. They seem to choose shows with big music issue problems so "Murphy Brown" & "The Drew Carey Show" would be great picks. I would also like to see "Perfect Strangers"... I'm not sure if the show has music issues or not, it's been forever since I've seen any episodes other than season 1.
venusx 12-02-2014, 12:31 PM FINALLY
I am so thrilled! This is severely overdue. Now I'm being greedy but I hope there are some good extras as well.
Marry Christmas to us
tlc38tlc38 12-03-2014, 11:18 AM I think it's safe to say that the All in the Family episode "Cousin Maude's Visit" will be one of the special features.
tlc38tlc38 12-04-2014, 11:18 AM Amazon has it up now for $111.99. That's an awesome price! I just preordered!
Kasey 12-04-2014, 01:37 PM I had to pre-order from Shout to get mine ASAP. AND they seem to have modified their shipping costs to Canada which is great. They are much more reasonable now than back when I got S4 of Rhoda and the postage was MORE than the DVD set!
Shipping was only $25 for Maude and it was FREE for The Facts of Life. Needless to say, I now will be getting both early!

OH Nuts! 12-05-2014, 08:53 AM I like Maude and am glad that REAL hard core fans can now get the whole series in one fell swoop. I always thought Maudie was at her best when she was tussling with Archie-talk about cat fights lol.
But for me the show falls into the category of shows I quite like but would not say I love. So for me personally, the Antenna TV freebies suffice. The down side to this of course is all the filler commercial time- which wouldn't be bad if they were the vintage ones. Also, I have a small apartment and have to collect sparingly at this point. (But I am really tempted by The Wonder Years box set.)
Happy viewing Maudie fans and glad you have this rollout! I know how much pleasure I get from having an entire I Love Lucy.
Impressions 12-06-2014, 03:19 PM About freakin' time. I have season 1, and don't get all those schmantzy-fancy classic TV channels like Antenna TV, to watch the rest of the seasons. I have been dying to see the rest of the series, as this is one of Lear's best all-time sitcoms. Next: release individual seasons, Shout, or God will get you for that!

I'm going to try and install an antenna on my roof to see what channels I can pick up. I'm also tired of being left in the dark when it comes to these awesome channels---hopefully I'll be able to get AntennaTV and Me TV. I'd kill to be able to get those channels. DIRECTV sucks.
I've got "Maude" preordered with amazon and when I get it I'm going to binge watch!! Can't wait! Good times ahead!
Ron Ron 12-14-2014, 12:59 AM Is it February yet?? :D
TVFactFan 12-14-2014, 06:43 PM I will get this sometime in 2015 but probably get it off ebay for a little cheaper. Should be able to get it for about $80 on ebay

Kasey 12-20-2014, 03:42 PM Have any special features been announced yet?
None, but it would be nice to see the 4 episodes of "Hanging In". It was a 1979 series that starred Bill Macy along with Dennis Burkley, Barbara Rhoades and Nedra Volz. Most Maude fans know that the latter three actors appeared in the final episodes of Maude as her advisor/assistant/housekeeper when it was planned for the character to begin a career in politics in Washington. I am guessing the series wasn't that great but it would be nice to have for completists.
Also, there were interviews on that awful, redundant Norman Lear box set that came out in 2009 that had Adrienne Barbeau appearing so I am hoping that her interview shows up here as well as bonus since I obviously never bought that other silly, pointless cash-grab from Sony.
tlc38tlc38 12-21-2014, 01:00 PM Also, there were interviews on that awful, redundant Norman Lear box set that came out in 2009 that had Adrienne Barbeau appearing so I am hoping that her interview shows up here as well as bonus since I obviously never bought that other silly, pointless cash-grab from Sony.
I agree. That box set was pointless. All of those shows already had been released on dvd and then they go and package them together with bonus features....UGHHH...I hate when they do this.
tlc38tlc38 12-23-2014, 09:52 PM Amazon has posted a new pic of the set contents. I can't post the pic...could someone please do this?!
The new pic reveals the set will include 3 standard DVD cases (2 seasons per case) and 1 slim DVD case that will contain the bonus DVD. The set will also come with a booklet.
venusx 12-24-2014, 12:17 AM A whole disc for bonus features sounds promising! I don't know Shout Factory's history with putting special features together but I hope there is some new material available.
Kasey 12-24-2014, 08:50 AM I wish we could see the cover art for all 4 cases.
I think the bonus disc will have the two "All in the Family" episodes with Maude in them and the interviews from the 2009 Lear set for sure. Perhaps episodes of "Hanging In" and a real treat would be "The Bea Arthur Special" from 1980.
Fingers crossed!
tlc38tlc38 12-24-2014, 11:00 AM I wonder why Shout! decided to do all the Norman Lear box sets in the white/orange color scheme. It looks ok, I guess, but I like a little variety and not everything to be the same colors. If (and when) "Archie Bunker's Place" and "One Day at a Time" are released I hope they abandon this trend.
Kasey 12-24-2014, 11:26 AM Well, it was the '70s after all and that was one of the 'in' colors for interior decor. Either that or avacado green.

True. My mom still has some of those avocado green Tupperware containers.

I noticed that from Amazon earlier. I especially like the bonus disc case art with Maude posing as the Statue of Liberty.

Color publicity pics from Maude are astrally rare. I know because I have been collecting them since 1992. The statue pic has been colorized (I have a B&W CBS original). I'm curious to see which pics are on the other 2 cases not shown.
RJinCA 12-27-2014, 12:42 AM 12/26....Just purchased Maude on the Shout Factory website. They must be having a sale. You can get an extra 15% off (at checkout) by spending $100 or more. So, that brought the price down from $128.99 to $109.64, plus you still get it a month early. I do not know how long the sale will last, but thought I would pass it along to help other Maude fans save a little money.
tlc38tlc38 01-04-2015, 10:12 AM Does anyone have a complete listing of the music used in the series by episode?
I ask this because there was a list for "WKRP".
Kasey 01-04-2015, 01:18 PM Does anyone have a complete listing of the music used in the series by episode?
I ask this because there was a list for "WKRP".
Not that I know of. I wish I was able to compile a music list for MAUDE and IT'S A LIVING, but alas, I never seem to have the time and I don't feel like rewatching all the episodes right now for just that purpose when I still own too many DVDs I've yet to see.
venusx 01-04-2015, 04:35 PM There wasn't a whole lot of music used on the show IIRC, and a lot of what I do remember was generic music, not sure if it was there originally or as replacement for more expensive songs in syndication. I'm sure lots of people will be rewatching the series once the DVDs come out, maybe we can collaborate and put a version together :)
Kasey 01-04-2015, 05:55 PM There were tons of songs used in the various telethon/talent show episodes throughout the series as well as instances of Maude, Walter, Arthur, etc. singing specific song lyrics. The instrumental track of the Josie & the Pussycats theme even appeared.
Kasey 01-04-2015, 06:14 PM "Maude's Musical" from S2 is just one episode and contains the following songs:
"Comedy Tonight" (Stephen Sondheim)
"You Can Meet Me 'Round the Corner In a Half an Hour" from "Sugar Babies"
"Lena is the Queen of Palesteena"
"We're Gonna Hang Out the Washing on the Siegfried Line"
"Hard Hearted Hannah"
"Me and My Shadow"
"Girls" (Cole Porter)
"I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy"
These date back 100 years to 1915(!) but some clearance will be required.
venusx 01-05-2015, 04:21 AM Definitely lots of music performed on the show, the writers didn't hesitate to have Maude & co break out into song! The list still wouldn't reach the level that a WKRP list would though even incorporating what the cast sang as well as what the show used. There would be some good original songs though..."big mouth lady on a subway train!"
tlc38tlc38 01-05-2015, 10:30 AM Basically, I wanted to know all the songs/music used in the series to base it on the recent releases from Shout! Factory to see what has been cleared and if some of the songs they couldn't get cleared are used in the series.
venusx 01-05-2015, 06:11 PM Is that something Shout Factory would note in the DVD liner notes I wonder? I'd be willing to do a comparison once I start watching the DVDs since I've seen the episodes so many times already, but the complete series version of Maude I have right now is ripped from syndication, so for all I know it's missing things too.
Kasey 01-05-2015, 09:48 PM They may issue a statement stating any songs unable to be cleared like they did with The Facts of Life, but I doubt they would include this info in the booklet. I have three different syndication edits of Maude from WTN and TVLand in the late '90s as well as the mid-2000s DejaView airings so I've seen different cuts of the episodes and pretty much know what music is where. I am trying to compile a list but am short on time.

Let's hope so. They were pretty up-front about The Facts of Life.
Ron Ron 01-08-2015, 08:09 PM From Shout's website:
Product Note
*The two unaired episodes of Maude share titles and story elements that eventually did air. "The Double Standard" was originally shot for Season One as episode 15 and did not air. However, the same script was reshot for Season Two with cast changes and aired on 10/30/73. "Arthur's Friends" (a.k.a. "Maude's New Friends") was originally shot for Season Three as episode 16. This version also did not air, but the script was reshot in Season Five with cast changes and aired 11/29/76. Tapes for both episodes were recently found in the Sony vault and have never been seen by the public until now.
tlc38tlc38 01-08-2015, 08:48 PM Thanks for the info about the unaired episodes. I was wondering about this when the bonus features were announced. I wasn't aware of any unaired episodes.
venusx 01-09-2015, 12:03 AM Thanks for the info! Too bad the unaired episodes aren't totally new to us but it will be interesting to see regardless. I wonder what the cast changes were? I assume with The Double Standard Carol's boyfriend changed characters, and the wife swappers changed in Maude's New Friends.
Kasey 01-09-2015, 01:50 PM Regardless, it will be interesting to see these. There was an episode of WKRP that had a cast change and script differences ("The Contest Nobody Could Win") but unfortunately Shout did not realize this and did not include the alternate take (which IS available on the abysmal Fox set from 2007). Glad they are doing this for Maude.

If I remember correctly all charges are done with the shipping but the box sets almost always have free shipping so you only pay the cost of the DVD.
Promo codes vary during the year…usually during Christmas shopping time or special holidays and they recently had a new website opening sell too with promo codes. And sometimes they give out promo codes with purchase of box sets. I don't know if there are any promo codes right now. You can always google Shout Factory promo codes and see what pops up.
I hope that helps you out. I did order mine from Shout. I have gotten all the box sets from them and haven't been disappointed with their shipments.

I would buy it from them at that price, but it's showing as $128.99 for me on their site. Not worth paying almost $30 more for a month early since I've seen all the episodes fairly recently, can't blame someone who's been waiting years or decades for wanting it asap though!

The extra 15% comes off in your cart.
I ordered over the weekend, and it was $109 and change.
I was going to wait for Amazon, but Shout's Valentine's Day sale brought the price close enough to Amazon's.

A rare sketch that isn't available yet on Carol's DVD collection. Isabel Sanford appears in the skit too in the Esther Rolle part. Never knew Isabel appeared on the Carol Burnett Show.
tlc38tlc38 03-11-2015, 08:31 PM Good news for me! I was able to rearrange my budget so that I can finally get this set! I preordered with Amazon (again) after having to cancel my order earlier due to home repairs. The set is now $99.99 plus tax with Amazon. I got free shipping so I won't get it until a few days after release date but that's ok with me...I'm just happy to finally be able to squeeze Maude back into my budget.

So glad to hear. I am happy you were able to order it. You will love this DVD release as you did the Jeffersons and The Facts of Life.

I believe all the music is included …there is no missing music that I know of...:D

What about the band playing a Led Zeppelin song in the Season 6 episode "Phillip's Birthday Party"? If they were able to get the rights to that then I'm impressed. Led Zeppelin's music is hard to clear.

You will love this set! I have not seen the show since TV Land aired it many moons ago and it is so much better than I remembered - and I remembered it being funny but not this funny. It is not as political as I remember, or as people tend to say it is, but still enough to make all view points the butt of jokes. The video quality is very good, too. I think better than the All In The Family releases.
Kasey 03-14-2015, 09:42 AM The people who talk about the political aspects of MAUDE and its datedness are usually detractors who just want to hate on the show and have likely only seen the abortion 2-parter and a few other early episodes from S1 or S2. The topicality was toned down quite a bit after that.

The theme song plays in the background but right before it comes up there is this dark-sounding "swoosh" sound as the logo sweeps into the screen.

That's just what I wanted to know! The menu screen looks like it's very well done to me. Thank you for the pictures!
BigManMike 03-14-2015, 07:13 PM Can I please see a pic of the bottom of the set? I just want to read all the specifications about the set. Thanks

Detractors is a great word to use and describe it, thank you! What I have found when watching this set (and AITF) is that the styles may have changed, the names and faces may be different by the majority of the issues discussed are still as relevant today as they were 40+ years ago.

I won't get my copy today because I used free shipping method. I should get it next week sometime. I'm looking forward to visiting Tuckahoe again!
That name (Tuckahoe) sounds so campy and full of drag queen goodness!
tlc38tlc38 03-22-2015, 12:20 PM According to the tracking #, I supposed to get my copy tomorrow!!! Can't wait!!
Kasey 03-22-2015, 02:07 PM I'm already almost done mine. I only have Season 6 left as well as the musical and Xmas episodes. Can't believe how fast I blew through it.
tlc38tlc38 03-30-2015, 11:36 AM I've got a busy week planned this week so hopefully I'll be able to start watching season 2 after Easter. Can't wait to lay my eyes on these episodes....it's been soooo long since I've seen these and most of them I haven't seen at all.

Was waiting on your post! Hope to hear what you think of the set.
Kasey 03-31-2015, 08:37 AM I was watching the episode "Mr. Butterfield's Return" last night and in the opening scene Vivian is watching The Newlywed Game and the announcer asks an embarrassing question to the contestants who's names are EUGENE and BEATRICE (obviously a wink to Gene Saks and Bea)!

Per EBay: further unboxing of Maude release
astro4004 04-22-2015, 07:50 AM I'm only halfway through season 4, but so far I am loving this set to pieces. It really is a masterpiece. Shout! Factory have gone above and beyond in terms of music clearances, special features, and overall quality.
I've read in a few places that there were no music edits. Has anyone found a solid source for that? Most of the episodes clock in at around 26 minutes, but at least one that I've noticed is 25:30. ("The Split.")
Curiously, I've checked out a few TV Land versions of episodes on YouTube and can't believe just how much had to be sheared from each show to play in the syndication cycle. Yipes -- entire scenes, gone! One that comes to mind is in "The Fling," where most of the party is excised, including Arthur's headstand.
Of the two shelved episodes, I prefer "Maude's New Friends." IMO, the two supporting actors in this one are interesting and funny but not as effective as their eventual replacements in the re-shot version. Still, it's interesting seeing Bea interact with her then-husband, Gene Saks.
Overall, a fabulous collection which I highly recommend.

There are no music replacements. And I agree with everything you said. Maude is my favorite show ever and this set is the crowning jewel in my 300+ DVD collection.
astro4004 04-22-2015, 08:41 PM Glad to read that the fans aren't noticing anything missing. I do wonder about the irregular run times, but the whole set is so well done that it hardly seems to matter.
My current favorite episode is "Rumpus in the Rumpus Room." Bernadette Peters as "Kathy" was really very funny in that brief appearance. Glad to see the DVD restored all of her dialogue.
JWLJN 05-04-2015, 09:24 PM They cleared "Tie A Yellow Ribbon" for the ep about Mrs. Naugatuck's apartment? I love that one and it would completely kill it if the song wasn't there.

venusx 05-06-2015, 06:52 PM When it rains, it pours...Shout is releasing Maude Season 2 on Dvd, to be released in August. Cover art is the same as the bonus disc in the box set. I definitely appreciate that Shout released the complete series set first instead of making us wait for them to release each season! I think we Maude fans had waited enough :)
venusx 06-01-2015, 03:14 PM So I finished the box set a few days ago, it was a real treat! even though I had downloaded a torrent of the series a couple of years ago (episodes were apparently taped off of the Dejaview network in syndication), this was definitely a major and significant upgrade. sometimes it was hard to tell if I had forgotten a scene or if I had never seen it before, but I could tell but there was a lot of restored footage from what had been chopped in syndication. I even located a few episodes that had been missing from the set of episodes I downloaded so that was a treat :)
The two "lost episodes" were fun to watch, although I would not rank either of them higher than the episodes that eventually aired.
zypherix 07-17-2015, 03:28 PM Gotta love the complete series set :) the show really improved in season 3 when Rue McLanahan (Vivian) became a series regular and Hermione Baddeley (Mrs. Naugatuck) was introduced.
LETTERL 08-16-2015, 03:16 AM I finally got around to ordering the box set; Amazon says mine should be here Wednesday. So looking forward to having all un-edited episodes as they originally aired.
I'm especially looking forward to the bonus features. Having "Cousin Maude's Visit" on DVD will be a treat; it ranks as one of my all-time favorite episodes of "All In The Family".
Shout! Factory just does such a great job with these old shows.
Now...they answered my request about "Maude". Can they do the same with "Green Acres"?
venusx 08-19-2015, 05:17 PM Shout is releasing Season 3 this fall...although I don't think anyone here is buying Maude season by season when the complete series is out! Good way for the show to pick up casual fans though...
