The cable channel AMC took it upon themselves to reinvent their network when their classic film line-up wasn’t bringing in enough revenue. They did so, exceedingly well, by being one of the first cable networks to launch their own original series such as Mad Men, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead is currently one of the most watched series on all of television. With a religious group of watchers that celebrate each new season with premiere parties around America, and a very hyped mid-season finale show this Sunday, why are we suggesting that The Walking Dead needs fixing? Any show, no matter how popular, can still be improved upon…thus here are five ways to improve this already spectacular series.

Stick Closer to the Graphic Novels
Over the course of several seasons The Walking Dead television series has veered away from its source material, adding in its own themes, plot developments and even characters that have nothing to do with the graphic novels. The core fans of the show are also those that are fans of the comic book series, and AMC would be wise to return to incorporating more of this richly written source material into the television series.
Less Episodes without Main Characters
Every once and a while it is great idea for a show to take a break from the main story line and develop lesser known characters, but doing this must not take over the entire series. Fans expect to see the main characters on a regular basis. These are the characters that made The Walking Dead a hit to begin with, and AMC should recognize that taking too much time away from the main characters could cause some viewers to lose interest in the show they hold so dear.
Offer Longer episodes than 1 hour
Unlike many of AMC’s competitors, AMC shows commercials. Viewers of other hugely popular series such as Showtime’s Homeland and HBO’s Game of Thrones and even Netflix’s new series all broadcast without commercials, and thus fans truly get an hour’s worth of their favorite shows. AMC could monopolize on this and develop a plan to expand the show to 90 minute episodes. Fans would absolutely go mad over this idea and AMC could keep their ratings high for more than just one time slot. It could also be another way that AMC can be at the forefront of original ideas and may spawn other networks to follow suit.
Where’s the gay? Is Daryl Ever Coming Out?
It’s clear that Daryl Dixon, played by actor Norman Reedus, has still not revealed much about his sexuality. Fans know that with his upbringing that he has learned to be guarded about anything of a personal nature to himself. But Daryl’s character has grown and with rumors from The Walking Dead creators suggesting that a gay character will soon reveal itself, it only seems a matter of time before Daryl comes out to the rest of the group. Fans are growing tired of the wait, AMC, sooner is better than later — let Daryl find true love and be able to share this freely.
Speed up the Zombie Runners
It’s a common thing with zombies…they walk kind of slow. But doesn’t the term ‘zombie runners’ invoke a little more speed in their gate? Perhaps the zombies could evolve and part of this evolution could include a faster pace. This will bring even more surprises to the show, and create even more plots of peril for the survivors.
