View Full Version : Writer Asks: Was Bill Cosby Always A Scumbag, A Bully, And A Fraud?

If fifteen-plus rape allegations aren’t enough for you, there is ample depressing evidence that good old Bill Cosby has always been a scumbag, a bully, and a fraud.
In 1989, Cosby was invited to Notre Dame to speak to a group of black graduates. Cosby singled out All-American tackle Dean Brown to ask what his GPA was. When Brown told him it was a 2.5, Cosby proceeded to humiliate him in front of the other students and parents:
“What do you think of a 2.5 average?” Cosby asked.
“I think it’s decent,” replied Brown, who was recently drafted by pro football’s Indianapolis Colts.
Cosby snarled back: “2.5 is OK if you have a mental disorder. You should be ashamed of yourself. You should have worked harder.”
Tears streamed down the 290-lbs. Brown’s face as he tried to defend himself: “I worked hard. I did my best…”
But Cosby cut him short. “You didn’t do enough.”
It turns out that Jerry Barca, who wrote a book about the 1988 Notre Dame season, has spoken out about just how devastating Cosby’s humiliation of Brown was.
In a letter to Deadspin, Barca says:
You’re right that Dean was a good guy. He also had some serious difficulties growing up. He had no money. He hustled food stamps at 10. And his favorite show growing up? Fat Albert. He was also very candid in saying he benefited the most of any of his teammates by being at Notre Dame. So he starts on a national title team and then he’s set to graduate a year later, a pretty monumental deal for him and Cosby berates him. When I spoke to Dean in 2012 for my book he said this: “I went a lot of years feeling like I was a failure, And, there were times that anytime I heard Bill Cosby’s name — it wasn’t a cringe, but it was a heavy uneasiness.
Why was the successful and accomplished Cosby so intent on belittling a young athlete and scholar?
Maybe Cosby wasn’t comfortable knowing that his own college degree was a sham.
In his book, Education’s Smoking Gun, a former professor at the University of Massachusetts, Reginald G. Damerel, says that Cosby was recruited personally by the assistant dean of the U. Mass. education school. He entered a program designed to award advanced education degrees to “mature students,” some of whom hadn’t attended or completed college. Cosby didn’t take semester-length courses. Instead he attended a weekend-long seminar and received credits for appearances on TV shows like Sesame Street and The Electric Company.
Cosby’s 242-page doctoral dissertation is titled ‘AN INTEGRATION OF THE VISUAL MEDIA VIA FAT ALBERT AND THE COSBY KIDS INTO THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM AS A TEACHING AID AND VEHICLE TO ACHIEVE INCREASED LEARNING.’ (January 1, 1976).
We can all read Cosby’s dissertation if we’re willing to buy a copy, but let’s face it: We know it’s just self-serving crap.
Damerell says, ‘A dissertation is supposed to be a contribution to human knowledge. This isn’t.’
Bill Cosby was supposed to be a role model. He isn’t.
TimOhara123 11-29-2014, 11:54 AM Ricky you seem to have issues with Bill. I see alot of links but not one that has any proof. Can you please provide a link to where anyone proves anything they said.
cleverfun3000 11-29-2014, 01:32 PM Hey Ricky - Being a succesful comedian, television and movie star doesn't mean you are a better person. You can still be a mean, ornery scumbag just like the guy down the street. The only difference is that Bill Cosby was excellent at his craft and made millions making millions of people laugh for decades. Why you would think that he would be any better than the average jerk you would meet in the street is beyond me. When I say I am a big fan of Bill Cosby (which I am), I mean I am a big fan OF HIS COMEDY.

You do NOT have to be a nice person to be a master at your craft. Bill Cosby is a master at his
craft. I never expect him to be anything other than good at what he does. And that is MAKE
PEOPLE LAUGH. In other words, I don't expect entertainers to be good; just GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO.

I can't speak for you, but I haven't ever raped anyone. And I don't hang out with rapists, either. If I were to find out someone I knew was a rapist, no matter how much fun I had had with them before, I would disassociate myself from them. Nothing they have done in their life makes up for raping people.

So ricky if someone said you attacked them should we just believe them regardless if they did or didn't, Or would it be better to have them prove it. All i'm asking.

No, I haven't and would never rape anyone either. And as far as finding out someone you had been hanging out with turned out to be a rapist - well, your decision not to hang out with him anymore actually would make a lot of sense to a lot of people. But that scenerio does't relate to the specifics here. Watching a freely brodcast, previously recorded television show from 25yrs ago is not “hanging out” with the person. So you are not condoning his accused actions by merely viewing the show. Watching a tv show is NOT hanging out with the celebrity.

A lost cause posting to Ricky at this point

You are the one who is a lost cause with your narrow minded views.

I know what you mean. Years ago, I bought a NY Jets jacket but now that convicted canine killer Michael Vick is on the Jets, I refuse to wear that jacket ever again. Also, I will never root for the Jets. When they are playing another team, I always hope that someone will crack Vick's ribs or break his neck.
ILuvCarolBurnett 12-01-2014, 05:20 PM Cosby has pretty much always been known in the business as a major, major a-hole.

Yong Fang 12-16-2014, 03:11 AM Norte Dame is a pretty challenging college from what I have read. So a 2.5 isn't so bad for a Bachelor degree, and he was going on the NFL anyway. It is always an honor to graduate from college, even if your GPA is so meager, even Tijuana Tech turned down your grad school application.
Bill Cosby also slugged Tommy Smothers once, but I think Tommy was the jerk in the incident. Cos is from Philly. Pretty tough town.
ILuvCarolBurnett 12-16-2014, 12:28 PM Jimmie Walker (who played J.J. on "Good Times") talked about Cosby in his book from a few years ago. I recall Walker saying how unkind Cosby was when new, young comics would want to ask Cosby for advice.
I always thought Cosby came across, publicly, as a real turd. An egomaniac. Everyone use to praise "Fat Albert" as a masterpiece of children's education, and to me, I thought that show promoted and made light of every negative stereotype of young uneducated Black men there ever was. It was almost like watching comics in blackface.
And "the Cosby Show". Never understood all the hype on it. In the 1980s, everyone was glued to their sets to watch Cosby mumble his lines. Weird.
Flying Dutchman 12-16-2014, 02:19 PM If I may, I would like to say this. If you're a cop and have saved lives your whole career, earned allot of respect and admiration for honesty and kindness and even fairness, and one day you just murder someone, that respects and admiration is all gone.
If you're an OB-GYN and you earn allot of respect throughout your career and trust, then one day you take advantage of a woman and rape her, when she trusted you with her body, and not to violate her, then that respects is gone and you can't be trusted anymore.
It doesn't matter what other negative things Bill Cosby has done at this point. He is finished. He has no more respect and no more trust. It's okay to try and point out his good points, but he drugged and raped many woman. There is nothing respectful about that.

I'm still struggling with the question of what is the difference between drugging women (unwillingly) into a catatonic state and having sex with them, and necrophilia? Obviously there's a difference as these women were not dead, but if they're completely knocked out when you're doing all kinds of things to them (rough enough to cause bruising), it's at least similar. There have been no allegations of break-ins into morgues and funeral homes, so that's a good thing. But rape is still a horrible act that can ruin lives. And some of these women attested that that's just what happened to them. As for Jimmy Walker, hasn't Bill Cosby claimed The Cosby Show to be an antidote to Good Times? By the way, I've always found Jimmy Walker much funnier than Cosby.

Not to defend Cosby, but anyone who's besties with a loon like Ann Coulter and then goes around spouting the same BS she does, such as opposing Affirmative Action (Jimmie Walker), isn't one that should be throwing any stones.
Cosby at this point really must be a manipulative piece of trash. Let's make a list: Making that reporter from the AP feel bad for doing his job. Acting like black journalists/people weighing the possibility that these allegations are true, is somehow unprofessional or traitorous. Now sending his female family members out to be thrown up under a bus, after selling out his own daughter years ago when these allegations came up once before. His actions are very telling.

Yong Fang 07-25-2015, 09:47 AM I have a question about "roofies" or the date rape drug. If the drug knocks out a woman cold to the point where one or several men can rape her and she has no feeling or clue the next day.......why not use that drug for a sleep aid. Why as the Michael Jackson given a roofie if he could not sleep?
