Betty White is back on the market! TV Land confirmed on Monday that "Hot in Cleveland‘s" current 24-episode sixth season will be the sitcom’s last.
“It’s been an honor to work with Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and the incomparable Betty White as well as our executive producers Suzanne Martin, Todd Milliner, Sean Hayes and the rest of our exceptional writers, production team and crew,” said TV Land president Larry W. Jones in a statement.
“The passion and talent they brought to the set each and every week over the past five years has put TV Land on the map as a network dedicated to quality original programming. We will continue to celebrate the show and are looking forward to a fantastic series finale.”
"Hot in Cleveland" was TV Land’s first original scripted series when it premiered in June 2010. Its debut episode drew the highest ratings in the network’s 14-year history.

80sTrivia 11-17-2014, 07:32 PM Darn! One of my favorites, but six seasons is long for a cable series!
Mr. Television 11-18-2014, 01:06 PM No more reason for me to watch that network now.
Did the ratings drop or do the stars no longer want to act in the series, just wondering why it was ending? I'll miss the cast & all the guest stars that were on the show.
wiseguy182 11-20-2014, 09:10 AM Betty White was supposed to just be a guest on the pilot episode. This was right around the time of her career resurgence. I don't think they planned on her having a permanent role, and there was no way they could have predicted how successful the show would be (breaking records for ratings for TVLand, being it's first and first successful original programming, etc). With Betty White being as popular as she is and approaching 93, I'm guessing they cancelled because she won't be around forever and there's no way to replace her. I don't know that's the reason they axed it, but it's the only thing I can come up with.
That being said, I will really miss the show. While the show was hit or miss with the laughs, it was always a sentimental favorite of mine. It was like having the Golden Girls back.
waichingliu81 11-20-2014, 11:00 AM it was such a good show. but as sad as this news is, i'm glad they are not dragging it on and on, like with other shows. i think that had it lasted for 7 more seasons or more, it will get tiresome.
comedyfreak 11-22-2014, 05:30 AM Well at least it had a good run.

It was cancelled because of money. No other reason
James28 11-23-2014, 01:58 AM Actually, the dropping ratings could be another reason.
Hot in Cleveland: Another good alternative to South Park gone.
king of comedy 11-23-2014, 09:57 AM Let's hope it goes out with a bang. 6 years is a good run.

low ratings = not making enough money for the network
HarryWild 12-07-2014, 03:35 AM Is syndication 6 or 7 seasons? I don't have cable and re-runs have been airing on CW now - late night!
DJM77 12-07-2014, 12:15 PM Good riddance!
ILuvCarolBurnett 03-29-2015, 02:16 AM Yes the ratings have nose-dived. Hence, the cancellation.
Schmoopie 03-29-2015, 02:22 AM I'm probably the only person around who honestly does not like this show despite the great cast it has. I've watched many episodes and even had some of the DVD's for a while, but I just really could not find interest in it at all. I was surprised to hear that it was ending but I agree that six seasons is a good run for a cable series.
ILuvCarolBurnett 03-29-2015, 02:27 AM I thought it was really nothing more than a cheap knock-off of "The Golden Girls". However, "Golden" was far more likable. There was a significant lack of chemistry in the "Cleveland" cast and the writing just wasn't that great, as it unfortunately is in most sitcoms today.
Wawwie 03-29-2015, 02:32 AM I think the show sucked big time. It's always been about three middle aged whiny sluts and an old lady.
The dialogue was never funny IMO.... no substance, so much fluff....
ILuvCarolBurnett 04-13-2015, 04:39 PM I think the cast was good. (although I think we could have replaced Bertinelli & Leeves for the betterment of the show.) The problem with this show, as it is with about 98% of the sitcoms on TV right now, is that the writing is terrible. Awful, disgraceful. Where some of these writers today learn comedy writing skills is a mystery to me, but they are not taught well or properly at all.
king of comedy 04-13-2015, 05:11 PM Perfect timing. Another season would be jumping the shark.

The TV Land sitcom ends tonight after six seasons and 130 episodes. Hot in Cleveland became a place where past network TV stars could congregate.
king of comedy 06-04-2015, 06:14 PM It was good ending last night.
Is it true that they cancelled Hot in Cleveland partly over fears that Betty Whites's mobility issues (by the third of fourth season, they had her seated through most of her scenes rather than walking around) would lead to her being hurt on set?

What about The Golden Girls? Three of the women weren't angels. Plus they had an old lady too.
Valerie Bertinelli on TV Land's Hot in Cleveland cancelation: "I think it was the stupidest thing they ever did" (https://www.thewrap.com/valerie-bertinelli-says-tv-land-canceling-hot-in-cleveland-was-the-stupidest-thing-they-ever-did/)
“I’m still pissed off that TV Land canceled us,” Bertinelli said while promoting her new Food Network cooking show at the TV press tour.
Mr. Television 02-12-2019, 10:59 PM They wanted to get hip and younger by going for single camera sitcoms and failed.
