View Full Version : What Do You All Think of Digital Cable?
Jack1000 03-15-2002, 07:42 PM I don't have it. The option to upgrade is an added $6.30/month. Yet my only interest in it is because we would get Game Show Network and 46 Commercial Free Audio Digital Music Stations on it. Our analog cable has 80 channels on it now. We also get HBO and Showtime...(Oh yea, they also boost you up to 10-15 multiple screens of any premium chaneel you subscribe to and 40 PPV's along with optional "sports package" and the optional "Digital Movie Package" for $3.00 more per month. (9 screens of Encore) and about 40 additional standard service networks.) So you figure about 100-150 additional channels. Problem is, we pay over $60 per month for analog cable now. I would like to hear the boards comments about digital cable and the reasons why you like it, or don't like it. If you don't have it, reason why (etc) I have a poll:
Swimfan85 03-15-2002, 09:18 PM i have it and i love it cuz its sweet
Truth 03-15-2002, 10:18 PM I have it and love it, except here its an extra like 30 bucks a month.....
ISmellFine 03-15-2002, 10:24 PM I have it and I hate it. Boo.
Chocoholic 03-15-2002, 10:26 PM I don't have it and I really don't see the need for it right now.
Mossopp 03-16-2002, 07:12 AM I dunno much about the situation in the States, but over here digital satalite is the only way to go.
-*Forever*- 03-16-2002, 01:19 PM I LOVE IT!!!! I love being able to see what eps are on. and the music channels.
Kay Scarpetta 03-16-2002, 03:17 PM I don't have it. I just got regular Cable. I don't really find a need for it anyways, seeing as I only watch NBC, and Lifetime basically.
Warm & Fuzzy 03-16-2002, 05:48 PM I had digital cable for a month only, and beleive me, I didn't think it was worth paying for. Since everything is, well, digital, sometimes, they'll have little specks on the TV, causing some kind of raninbow kind of view.
Anyhow, I had digital cable, but did not enjoy it, so canceled.
I don't like digital cable because there aren't as many choices
as there are with satellite systems. I like TVLand and Nick-At-Nite!
TV Favorites 03-17-2002, 12:15 PM I would get it, but I can only afford either analog cable and a cable modem OR digital cable and dial-up modem. Since I have TV Land, GSN, Goodlife, and the big three networks on analog and couldn't bear a dial-up modem again, I decided to keep analog.
Maybe if I got another job making more $$ I could get both! :)
I have it.I LOVE it.

Dude111 06-26-2022, 12:36 PM I don't have it. I just got regular Cable. I don't really find a need for it anyways, seeing as I only watch NBC, and Lifetime basically.Ya when Spectrum bought my local cable company they dropped the analogue tier... (Didnt matter anyway,it was just digital crap coverted to analogue and assigned to channels 2-69 by that point)
I had cable but got rid of it...... I had then fastest box they offered and when they went to this Navigator crap my box was slow and disgusting.......
I managed to avoid then update for awhile by unplugging my wire at night but sadly I was only doing it on tuesday night (The day they said they were gonna be doing that)
Bastards got my box on a different night.......
THEY ALWAYS TAKE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL AND MAKE IT GARBAGE!!!
GentlemanJim 06-26-2022, 02:05 PM Yah man, I always thought our first cable box had the best picture.

GentlemanJim 06-26-2022, 02:15 PM Boy, they never warned us that eventually one day only a handful of companies would own most of the channels, and would keep showing the same garbage over and over, did they?
1960'sTVfan 06-26-2022, 02:47 PM I'm not positive about this but I seem to recall an article in one of the TV Guides from about 1967 or 68, and the article was about cable TV, saying that cable was the future of TV and in about 15 years time homes would start getting wired for cable TV.
AMackII 06-27-2022, 08:53 PM I have Digital Cable from for the most part during over the last 20 years. With Because of Roku, I do now have Spectrum App.
stevea 06-27-2022, 09:04 PM Cable TV started out as CATV (community Antenna), and it was a good concept, and dealing with small companies. West Palm Beach could get the OTA channels from Miami, and vice versa.
As with so many other companies, larger companies gobbled these up, and ultimately ruined them with their typical lousy customer service. "Free" TV turned into a joke, with every entity billing other entities with carriage fees, which were ultimately handed to the customer, along with all the ads, to boot.
"Digital" cable became an excuse to offer extra tiers at higher fees. You want that one channel? It comes in a tier with ten others you don't want, sorry. So now we get hundreds of channels, only a few of which we watch. Don't care about sports? Too bad, you're still gonna pay the regional sports fee.
Dude111 06-29-2022, 01:08 PM Yah man, I always thought our first cable box had the best picture.
http://i.imgur.com/2xcNW7s.gifThat was the best box to have!!
All ya did was slip an index card in the front and ya got all the scrambled channels in :) (Ah man!!)
Whats the green round thing on it? (Thats not part of the box)
I have digital cable, and our provider is Xfinity.
cpmaz 07-02-2022, 10:38 PM Actually, a few years ago, I completely got rid of cable TV because of the cost, and I don't regret it.
Dude111 07-03-2022, 02:54 AM I hear ya!!!
Nothing worth watching either.....
