Barney Stinson from HIMYM...the biggest reason why I dislike this show!

Deborah from Everybody loves Raymond!!!

I mean come on lady, really, it's that bad? You have a handsome husband who loves you , that works a good job, a beautiful house, and three healthy children and all you do is complain and bully your husband, just because your mother in law is annoying?

I couldn't stand this show just because of her!

Franklin from My Wife and Kids

God he was annoying. It's called My Wife and Kids not My Wife, Kids and Neighbor Kid. He was at pretty much every family function and vacation ever since his first appearance. Franklin was a hateful prodigy child, a small *beep* and was totally unrealistic. It's chronologically impossible a 9-year-old have two doctorates, have written a book and be a licensed builder. He was even getting more screen time than Kady. I also found it a bit inappropriate when Michael goes to Franklin for advice (mostly parenting or marriage advice). I mean Michael is 40-something years old. Why would he go to a 7 year old kid?

While I prefer Bailey I would consider WKRP a classic that is perfectly cast for all 8 members, it wouldn't be the same without Jennifer. Now I haven't seen Nurses but have heard Loni isn't as good there.

I also dislike Randy "The Smart-ass" Taylor from HI. He always has to make a smart-ass comment around his dad...does he have ANY respect toward Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor?

Luckily Tim lay-down the law with Randy when he felt hurt on what Randy said about his show by accidentally eavesdropping on his conversation.

Ricky Seagall from The Patridge Family

Blech, when that creepy kid next door, Ricky, got 5 minutes at the end of every episode to sing a song, and everybody stood around smiling at him like idiots. The kid was vapid and disgustingly sugary sweet. Literally the kiss of death.

Tracy Partridge I'll throw in there too. That red-haired zombie absolutely could not act!!!! The least they could train her to do was say a line with expression and hit a tambourine properly. Did this girl ever smile she always had sour look on her face. Luckily she had a minimal role.

Lois from Malcolm In the Middle. Just once I'd have loved to see Malcolm, Hal and/or Reese tell that harridan off and slap some sense into her.

Violet the daughter on Mom, can't stand the witch. Big chip on her shoulder, I quit watching the show because of her behavior.

I so hated Judith on "Two and a half men", but I would't call that "irrational".

But a lot of people hate Michelle from "Full House", with no good reason, and Pam from "The Cosby show", with even less reason.

I hope that brat leaves for good. Seriously, her walking out cheered me up. That character is holding this comedy back; she is ornery, unlikeable, and unfunny (nothing against the actress--she's just written that way.) Plus, maybe with her gone there will be more time for the talented Kevin Pollak.

For the longest time I couldn't stand Mallory from Family Ties.

Do you know that feeling when you have cold diarrhea ruining down the back of your leg? That's the feeling I had whenever I saw Mallory.

Handsome? Raymond? Not that good of a husband either. Lazy, mama's boy, wasn't that interested in the children, never took Deb's side against his (wonderfully) biatch of a mother. Sorry but the series finale should have been Debra applying a frying pan over his head.

Patricia Heaton looked good too. She is 56 and still looks good.

I wouldn't say I hate anyone but there are some I won't watch.

Fran on The Nanny (her voice)
Pretty much everyone on Seinfeld
Priya on Big Bang Theory (she just got on my last nerve)
Bob Crane on Hogan's Heroes (He's disgusting)
Roseanne
Shelley Long on Cheers
Don Adams on Get Smart
ALF
Jon Cryer on Two and a Half Men

Whenever I saw her, I sometimes wished I could have Mallory running down the back of my leg. :)

Steve Urkel on Family Matters. Why did any of the characters on the show like him at all?? He was just like nails on a chalkboard!

Most of them didn't like him either, at first. But eventually, they started to understand that he had his good sides too.

Michelle Tanner (Full House) - I listed dozens of reasons to hate this whiny, spoiled, annoying, ugly brat. Treated everyone around her like indentured servants whose sole existence in life was to cater to her every whim.

Ross Gellar (Friends) - Whiny and annoying, among other things.

Daniel Larusso (Karate Kid) - Mouthy, unappreciative punk who couldn't leave well enough alone.

pretty much everyone on Everybody Hates Raymond, except for the twins and Doris Roberts.

Mimi (The Drew Carey show) - I never really watched this show, but who could tolerate that rude pig with the ATROCIOUS wardrobe?

Albert Ingalls (Little House on the Prairie) - committed just about every crime under the sun, whiny, ugly little puke with the dip-lip. Stole, ran away and beat up people all the time, burnt down the blind school and killed Alice Garvey and Mary's baby, etc.

Bonnie (Roseanne) - I hated how she casually mentions she held up a liquor store, as if she were talking about what she had for dinner last night. I think her sole existence on the show was to make Roseanne look thin, not an easy task.

A couple of characters I used to hate, but have since grown on me are Mark Taylor (Home Improvement) and Elliott (Just Shoot Me).

Ricky was the Partridge Family version of the Brady Bunch's Cousin Oliver. Given a choice, I like him a little better.

The way you described Tracy reminds me of Linda from "Make Room For Daddy" as played by Angela Cartwright. In the beginning, around Seasons 5 and 6, when she was only 5, she would say her lines, start laughing, then look towards the audience to see what they were laughing at. Despite this obvious lack of proper acting technique, the viewers loved her (I did too!) and as she got older, she was given more to do. It wasn't until "Lost In Space" that she became a better and more polished actress.

I've though of a few more.

Janice on Head Of The Class, I think she came off as kind of a know it all and they never really did much with the character anyways.

Leonardo DiCaprio's character Luke on Growing Pains. I'll never understand why they added that character to the show he didn't add anything at all to it as far as I'm concerned.

Richie who was on The King Of Queens the first season or two, he was just boring and annoying.

I liked The King of Queens. Was sort of a latter day The Honeymooners. I did not like Doug's friend Deke, or really any of his friends besides Patton Oswalt (and I know that there are people who hate him).

Actually Leah Remini was annoying except in measured doses. But she was such a fine ass looking woman it did not matter. Don't ask me why, but female Brooklyn accents are sexy to me (see Cathy Moriarty).

Judge Judy (I wish someone would throw their shoes at her)

Judge Judy isn't a character!!! :happyface

She ran her court room when she was still a Family Court judge in NYC the same way she does on TV (look up her 1993 60 minutes interview)...

Every classic TV show has that character—the one who made you roll your eyes, groan at the screen, or wonder what the writers were thinking. But here’s the twist: a lot of those “annoying” characters were actually doing the heavy lifting.

In this video, we’re breaking down 10 TV characters we loved to hate… but the writers absolutely needed. From Cousin Oliver on The Brady Bunch and Scrappy-Doo crashing the Scooby-Doo gang, to Steve Urkel turning Family Matters into a ratings powerhouse, these characters were chaos agents, comic relief, moral foils, and walking symbols of what the show was really about.

Were they annoying? Absolutely. Were they unnecessary? Not even close.

Tell us in the comments: which “hated” character would you actually erase from your favorite show—and would the series still work without them?

If you love deep dives into classic TV, forgotten characters, and the weird logic behind your favorite shows, hit like, subscribe, and stick around for more from the Throwback Network.
