I have never really liked this show, but I have watched it,
One episode I never understood is the one where the kids read the article in the paper about a family that sounded like theirs. Apparently, it was just a coincidence, but at the end it shows Mike and Carol throwing away letters apparently to Dear Libby or something. Did that mean that they were thinking of sending their letters because of the same reason in the article? if anyone understands this episode, please inform me.

I don't believe there's a scene where Mike and Carol either write or throwaway Dear Libby letters. They spend most of the episode dancing around whether or not they wrote the letter in question (each one thinks the other might have). They finally clear up the misunderstanding at the end of the show, of course.

It was in the tag, not always shown in syndication. Each wrote a letter but never sent it.
