We found out in another thread that Groucho Marx actually read for the role of Lew Marie in That Girl, but that it didn't work out. What kind of recurring show/role of the 60s would Groucho have been right for? Here's some ideas:

--Get Smart: he could be a control agent who pops out of closets and things and says a few wisecracks;
--F Troop: the show made an Indian out of every other Jewish comedian, why not Groucho?
--Bewitched: he had a little cameo on Jeannie, but Bewitched was better at extending the family. Uncle Julius could have joke wars with Uncle Arthur;
--Patty Duke Show: actually any of the family shows - he could do a character like Wilson on Home Improvement, but instead of sage advice he'd dispense bad puns and abuse;
--Petticoat Junction: guest at the Shady Rest gets a look at the Bradley girls - and never leaves!

How about Groucho as Buddy Sorrell. "The Human Joke Machine", on "The Dick Van Dyke Show" instead of Morey Amsterdam? That would have been perfect!

(Poor Mel..:lol: )

Maybe one episode, but not as a recurring character. What single mother in her right mind would want a man (a non-relative) hanging around her young daughters? Even if it's innocent, it looks weird and inappropriate. That's my only bone to pick with One Day at a Time. Groucho would have been a great uncle, but that position was already taken by Edgar Buchanan who did a great job.

maybe THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES as one of the Drysdales relatives? Not as a recurring character but an occasional guest star.

Or GREEN ACRES as, oh I don't know...another store owner who's a rival of Sam Druckers maybe?

Hmm...I think Groucho could've played Gomez Addams since both smoked cigars, had mustaches, and made many wisecracks.
