Bebe Neuwirth's voice is like the complete opposite! LOL! No offence, but I don't care for Mariah Carey's voice. She's too airy and nasally. I'm not a big "pop" fan, anyway.

I know I don't have to state this because you all know I think Bebe's voice is wonderful. All my favorite vocalists are all on Broadway. Audra McDonald, Rebecca Luker, Marin Mazzie, Emily Skinner, Norm Lewis (that man has the most incredible voice!), Brian Stokes Mitchell, Jarrod Emick, etc. The list could go on and on, in fact, I know I'm forgetting some of my faves. Ah, such is life.

yea i know, thats why i would take either or.. i grew up on mariah carey, and even though i dont care for her much now, when always be my baby was out around that time and i was in middle school.. i loved her voice, and now its scary because i burned liliths broadway tunes onto cd and im singing it around everyone and no ones used to it so theyre kinda just staring.. but they all admit she has a really good voice.......

And all that jazz..........

In my above post, I forgot to add Brian D'Arcy James! OMG... I love his voice. LMAO

Anyway, yeah... I grew up listening to showtunes... :lookaroun

I also grew up watching movie musicals. (I've been a fan of Ginger Rogers since I was like 4... I also could recite all the dialogue and songs to White Christmas and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers ... I was an odd child!) I never was a fan of popular style vocalists, but that feeling truly set in when I started my voice lessons when I was 10. After technique had been brought to my attention, I just could never listen to someone sing without critiquing their every move. Pop stylists lack that proper technique which is why I can't enjoy them. I do enjoy some of the songs in general; but, I can never admit to liking their voices. BUT... I do realize that it's a certain "style", and I suppose I admire them in that respect.

FACT: I'm an elitist theatrical snob. (No need to write any limericks on bathroom walls about me - I'm well aware of my egotistical ways! LOL)

That aside, I'm not saying there aren't those on Broadway who lack correct vocal technique... oh, there are! Alas, the majority of the Great White Way are brilliant... and those who aren't phenomenal vocally most likely make up for it with their acting and/or dancing. :)
