Director Dave Powers on the DVD commentary said each animal the actors were filmed with represented who they were. How on earth though is Larry an Elephant, Furley a Lion, and I'm not exactly sure what Dave was trying to say about Janet in the petting zoo?

One thing's for sure about Furley, he's no lion.

It would have made more sense if there was a pig there that Larry could be standing next to, right?

Perhaps it's the animal the person most relates to or thinks they relate to....Furley always imagines himself to be a lion, even though he fails hard at it.

I think the joke with Larry is the same as in Season 4 credits---where he gets into the bumper car with a woman who turns out to be a dude. In the later credits, he thinks he's cozying up to Janet for the picture, but when he turns around, he's stuck next to the elephant.

Janet is seen with the mountain goats, which are animals usually perceived as plucky, stubborn, and tenacious despite their small size. Terri is graceful and fun like the flamingo, Cindy is tall and gawky like the giraffe. And, of course, Jack is nearby the monkey cage, lol (*cue pervert face*).
