View Full Version : Favorite monopoly playing piece
Bonniegirl 10-12-2014, 11:58 PM I thought this would be a fun topic for a new thread! We all have played monopoly before, esp. us older folks who only had board games and not video and computer games! :)
I loved the iron!!! It was awesome. Not sure why? But something that was really cool about the iron was it could sit down flat or stand up, just like a real iron. The other pieces couldn't do that! Plus I really liked to iron as a little girl. Back than with lots of stuff needing to be ironed, I liked helping Mom with that chore! ;)
The dog was really cute, I loved that one too, but my sister claimed that one really quickly as hers! My brother loved the race car and my mom who liked to sew always liked the thimble. My dad didn't seem to have a preference he was like whatever piece is left!!! LOL!!! :)
The pieces left were the top hat, the boat and the cannon and the shoe! ;)
The iron first and the doggie second for me. What were your favorites?

robyrob 10-13-2014, 12:44 AM race car then top hat.
gidgetgrape 10-13-2014, 12:50 AM I'm always the shoe.
treky 10-13-2014, 01:28 AM I always liked the shoe. When we were little my older brother would always pick the race car because it was a "guy" piece.

Yep!! My brother liked the race car too for that reason ! :D
We ended up getting a new monopoly set later on down the line and they added a wheelbarrow , it either replaced the cannon or the battleship I think? Not really sure, but I remember something like that!
Penny Lane 10-13-2014, 01:21 PM I haven't played Monopoly in years but my siblings and I always fought over the race car:lol:
Penny Lane 10-13-2014, 01:44 PM Speaking of Monopoly, my grandson wants Legend Of Zelda Monopoly for Christmas. I just now purchased it on amazon.com.:D
Torgo 10-13-2014, 04:41 PM I always wanted to be the race car, if I didn't get that I liked the hat.
Me & my cousin would always argue over who got the little dog. Since it was her board game she usually got her way. lol! My brother always took the race car so I usually took the iron or the top hat.
Family Ties Forever! 10-13-2014, 08:35 PM I would say the hat and then the thimble.
I used to have the entire Monopoly board memorized because it was too hard ot see.
I now have one that is raised with braille and is large print as well.
Bonniegirl 10-13-2014, 08:53 PM This is interesting!!!!
Here is what each token says about you:
Battleship - Players who choose this token tend to be more cutthroat than other players. They tend to have a bit of artistic flair. They rely on math, not circumstance, when making their financial decisions and tend to be aggressive.
Boot - People who choose this token tend to be discriminating. 1 out of 16 people choose the boot (known to some as the shoe). They tend to be generous, but are easily riled. They have long memories and tend to remember when they've been crossed. More females than males choose this token.
Car - The most popular token, preferred by 1 out of 4 players. People who choose it tend to be outgoing, friendly, versatile, and adaptable. Players who choose the car tend to be male and are very passionate.
Hat - Tied for the second-most popular; chosen by 1 in 5 Monopoly players. Hat players tend to be introverted in real life, but the game is a great escape for them, where they can be a little more dominating than in real life. These players don't mind drawing attention to themselves or being controversial in the game and play very strategically. They also tend to calculate the odds of a financial return before making an investment.
The Iron - Evenly played by both males and females, 1 out of 20 people prefer to play this token. Iron players are "pluggers" -- they persist against long odds and often prevail. They handle adversity well.
Scottie Dog - Preferred by 1 out of 5 Monopoly players; tied for second-most popular token. They tend to be more female than male. They consider themselves trustworthy, loyal, and keen to play. They are mentally agile and passionate about winning. Dog players regard themselves as mild risk takers and careful in their strategy. They take more time counting their money. The Scottie was not one of the original tokens, but Orbanes says people believe it was added to the game because of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was in office when the Monopoly game was popularized and had a Scottish Terrier, named Fala.
Thimble - Mainly played by females; it's the second least popular game token. People who choose the thimble are considered practical, sensitive and creative. Orbanes says thimbles used in early versions of Monopoly had the inscription: "for a good girl."
"It was a rite of passage for little girls, when they became old enough, to learn how to sew at the feet of their mother. Remember, mending clothes was a part of life in the early 20th century," says Orbanes. "When a little girl became old enough and in the eyes of her mother was qualified to be sewing, she would be given a little thimble with the inscription -- 'for a good girl.'" Eventually, the inscription was phased out from the game.
Wheelbarrow - The least popular token, only 3 percent of Monopoly players use it. Wheelbarrow players are tough competitors and tend to be male. They expect a contentious game. Orbanes says one interesting reason players may choose the wheelbarrow: they imagine it being full-sized and full of cash.
tlc38tlc38 10-13-2014, 09:11 PM My favorite was always the man on horseback but that piece seems to be retired now.

I just found out my iron was also retired! :( I remember a few years ago that they were going to vote one out and add a new one, but I never thought more about it). Well come to find out my iron was voted out (got only 8 percent of the votes, the least amount of votes) WHAT???? Not my iron!! :( but they voted in a new piece, a cat. It's adorable I love it!;) But I still wish they would have voted out another piece besides my iron! :(
I bet if kids still play monopoly a lot of fights will be over the cat! :D

The competition that the cat beat out were a ring, helicopter, a robot, and a guitar! I think the robot is cool, it's really cute! :)

Same with me. Probably then the iron, or maybe the thimble.
There might have been a piece or two missing from our old set; it originally belonged to an older relative of ours. The paper money had gotten pretty shopworn.
I remember my brother's friend's orange Popsicle dripping a spot on our board. It's funny but if that hadn't happened, I wouldn't have remembered him ever being at our house!:) (He was the guy who felt the back of my neck after my summer haircut and said "Peach fuzz!")

There you are!!! How are you? I like the picture of Peggy Lipton, she was so pretty! :)
YAY for the iron! ;) Funny the stuff we remember. I remember we had a chubby kid from our neighborhood stay for dinner, and we had a few cookies after we ate. Than we were playing a board game, and the chubby kid goes. 'let's ask your Mom for more cookies"! :D I remember that vividly and it was so many years ago. :)
