Ooo! Ooo! It's Season Two! After a ve-ry impressive first semester, the Sweathogs are back for more in Welcome Back, Kotter: Season Two. Featuring the delightful ensemble work of Gabe Kaplan, Marcia Strassman, John Sylvester White, Robert Hegyes, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, Ron Palillo and John Travolta, these 23 episodes represent some of the best that Kotter and his class of cut-ups had to offer.

This season's highlights include Barbarino (Travolta) replacing Horshack (Palillo) in a school production of Cyrano de Bergerac, Freddie "Boom Boom" Washington (Hilton-Jacobs) becoming a smash on the radio, and the gang pitching in to help Epstein (Hegyes) quit smoking. Throughout it all, Mr. Kotter himself (Kaplan) is there with a word of advice and a quick-witted quip for our favorite Sweathogs as they learn both in and out of the classroom.

In 2007, Warner Home Video released The Complete 1st Season on DVD, then put home video releases of Welcome Back, Kotter on hiatus. Two months ago, Shout! Factory - who licensed the rights from Warner and teamed up with them for the release - put out The Complete Series set, with all 4 seasons of the show. Now, fans who already had the original freshman season and didn't want to buy it all over again with the complete set will be pleased to know that Shout! will soon follow up with an individual release of Welcome Back, Kotter - The Complete 2nd Season. Priced at $29.93 SRP, the 4-disc set will be in stores on January 20th. Here's the cover art:

I bought season 1 when it came out a few years ago. When the complete series was announced, I held off on buying it, waiting to see if the seasons would also be released individually. Season 2 is out, 3 is soon to follow. I'm not interested to have season 4, I think I'll pass on that one if it gets released individually. That's another reason I didn't buy the complete series. I don't like season 4.

Uncut is nice, but I don't need to see the 4th season episodes again, even in uncut form.

I attended high school during the same years WBK originally aired (1975-79) and I was a faithful watcher of the show back in the day. I seldom missed an episode. By the 4th season, the show was a shadow of it's former self, fighting going on behind the scenes that resulted in changes to the show, to me the last season is depressing. I remember watching the 4th season episodes original run on ABC, and I thought at the time- "Damn, this show sucks now." Worst of all is the two parter when Arnold Horshack gets married, that is easily the low point of the entire series. I saw those episodes in 1979 when they originally aired, once was painful enough, I don't want to see them again.

The 4th season isn't a complete disaster, there are a few fairly decent episodes, but overall it's a big comedown compared to the previous seasons. During the 3rd season there was a slight decline in the show's quality, but is still a good season. Seasons 1 and 2 are the best.
