MTV Picks Up Fifth and Final Season of "Awkward"
Oct 8, 2014
by Michael Schneider
Well, this is "Awkward": MTV has picked up a fifth season of the critically acclaimed comedy series, but also confirms it will be the show's last.
That means "Awkward" will be back for one final round in 2015 before wrapping up for good.
The show is currently in its fourth season, airing Tuesdays at 10/9c.
This season has focused on senior year at Palos Hills High School, as Jenna Hamilton (Ashley Rickards) and her friends contemplate their future, graduation and impending adulthood.
"Awkward" has seen its ratings decline a bit this fall. The second half of Season 4 premiered on Sept. 23, averaging 1.2 million viewers. (When three days of delayed viewing is included, that "Live+3" number jumps to 2 million viewers.)
That's down from the Season 4 debut on April 15 (1.6 million viewers, with a total of 2.3 million in Live+3). Comparatively, last fall's Season 3B debut (on Oct. 22) averaged 1.6 million viewers and 2.2 million total in Live+3.
