View Full Version : The Big Bang Theory: 10 Reasons Amy & Sheldon Should Break Up TMC 10-03-2014, 09:48 PM http://whatculture.com/tv/the-big-bang-theory-10-reasons-amy-sheldon-should-break-up.php Should TV's oddest couple end their romance? eleri 10-26-2014, 07:25 PM I completely agree that Sheldon and Amy should break up. Now, don't get me wrong. I love Amy. I could barely watch the show before she joined. Certainly not as appointment viewing. I thought Sheldon was the only fun thing about it, and he too often had to make way for plot lines about whiny Leonard or pervy Howard. Then Amy came along and boom! we had two Sheldon-types. Double your pleasure. And the gimmick of Sheldon having a girlfriend was funny . . . for a while. It's gotten old. The relationship has nowhere to go with Sheldon's established character, so now they are trying to bend Sheldon's formerly irrepressible personality to squeeze relationship comedy out of it. They even have him getting jealous because she spent an evening with Leonard! That just makes no sense. I would love it if Amy started seeing Stuart, but continued to be friends with everyone. Stamy would be a potentially funny couple. Shamy has become a tired joke. comedyfreak 10-27-2014, 05:34 AM I don't think they should break up they're good together. ajgenard 10-27-2014, 06:51 AM I completely agree that Sheldon and Amy should break up. They even have him getting jealous because she spent an evening with Leonard! That just makes no sense. I would love it if Amy started seeing Stuart, but continued to be friends with everyone. Stamy would be a potentially funny couple. Shamy has become a tired joke. Speaking as someone who hasn't missed an episode since TBBT debuted, Sheldon and Amy's relationship is by far the most stale and downright annoying aspect of this show. Even the viewers such as yourself who have come along in the past couple seasons (admittedly largely due to Amy) have started to hate on this. Huge shift in the demographic since all the relationships came into the fold, especially Shamy. I dread being that guy who's shouting from the rooftops that he's been there since Day 1 of a hit show and it's gotten way off track. But this show is actually starting to alienate it's SECOND group of weekly viewing devotees. How many shows in the history of television can claim that? Bottom line is that TBBT has lost most of it's zest to much of it's audience; something just about every scripted show does after 8 years. Well these massive ratings won't last forever if they keep writing the same old groan-worthy Shamy storylines. People are gonna lose interest; that's inevitable. eleri 10-27-2014, 12:03 PM I really don't believe in these character progression arcs. That's the thing. Dramatic progression makes very little sense for someone like Sheldon, who is so violently opposed to change of any kind. Change should be gradual and grow organically out of his existing personality. For Sheldon to become Amy's Romeo , it wouldn't be a progression so much as a personality transplant:eek3: . I think if they had kept Amy's character similar to her original character ("physical contact up to and including coitus is off the table") she and Sheldon could have a static un-romance that would work perfectly fine. The "look! Sheldon has a girlfriend!" cracks would have gradually given way to oddball friendship-based humor. The problem is that Amy has changed, to the point that she is now the "normal" one in the relationship, and she wants a normal romance. Her attempts to coax romance out of Sheldon have become repetitive and tiresome. I think she should give Sheldon an ultimatum: lovers or just friends. That way, the break up will be his decision and we don't have to go through some tedious plot line of his coping with rejection. Amy will be free to find someone else, while still remaining friends with Sheldon. I'm particularly interested in a Stamy relationship because I think Kevin Sussman has fantastic comedic timing:lol: and I'd love to see him get more screen time. eleri 10-27-2014, 04:25 PM Even if Sheldon is the one who breaks up with *her*? |
