From USA Today
Viewers may now be thinking twice before they click "play" on the classic Warner Bros. cartoon, Tom and Jerry.
Amazon Prime Instant and iTunes have posted a disclaimer that warns users that the cat-and-mouse shorts, which ran from 1940 to 1957, "may depict some ethnic and racial prejudices that were once commonplace in American society."
The warning continues: "Such depictions were wrong then and are wrong today."
A similar disclaimer appeared on the classic 1940s show's DVD set from Warner Home Video. Whoopi Goldberg also narrates a pre-film disclaimer recognizing offensive scenes.
USA TODAY Network has reached out to Amazon and Apple for comment.
Look...people were misunderstood about other people's culture prior to 1963. These cartoons weren't intended for children back then, we just gave the children shows we shared through generations! It's just that some children who grew up in the 50's would later want cartoons that used stereotypes and violence to be buried with all the unsold E.T. Games!
