* They have to look after a dog or child who will like her but not him
* They're stuck in a small, confined place (with a few characters maybe), by way of a character study (the 'cheap' episode)
* There's a 'scary' episode with aliens or ghosts
* There's a promotion opportunity at work (may involve the boss and his wife coming to dinner)
* He takes up a random hobby
* He attracts the unwanted attention of someone he doesn't like very much at all (she will be suspicious/jealous if person is another woman)
* They enter some kind of competition
* They have just returned from holiday (wearing a sombrero and talking about everything that happened as they marvel at the mound of mail etc)
* They take in a lodger
* They try to compete with higher classes and/or intellects
* He goes on a diet (and is presented with a lettuce leaf on a plate. "What's this?" he'll say)
* A DIY episode
* He'll want to show how youthful and down with the kids he is
* An episode where he keeps getting in trouble with the police
* They go to a funeral
* They go a wedding
* A random distant relation who's a bit mad and embarrassing will turn up
* An episode with him visiting a psychiatrist
