It's the closure we always wanted, but never got.

While making her media rounds for ABC's new hit show "black-ish," Tracee Ellis Ross stopped by "The Breakfast Club" to discuss the series, conversations about race, life as Diana Ross' daughter and more. But the inevitable question managed to slip its way through: What happened to "Girlfriends?" (http://www.lipstickalley.com/showthread.php?t=771870)

Six years after abruptly leaving the air, the sitcom is still a favorite among fans who long to see a proper ending for Joan, Toni, Maya and Lynn. In speaking with The Breakfast Club, Ross revealed she believes there was a final script for the show that would have tied up any and all loose ends.

"I actually think that there was a [final] script and I think Toni and Joan came back together," she said. "[...] And I think Joan got married."

As far as rumors of a "Girlfriends" movie, Ross said it was once a possibility, but it seems the project has been shelved.

"We were all game. I don't know what happened with that," she said. "But now, don't you think it's too long? Now I think it's too long. The girlfriends might look old."

Fans might never get to see a final farewell, but it's nice to know Joan and Toni had a happily ever after.

Catch episodes of "Girlfriends" weekdays at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. EST on Centric!

I agree with Tracee. It would be too late at this point for a movie. Mara Brock Akil had a dilemma when The Game was revived by BET. Either pick up where Season 3 left off or fast forward to 2011. She stated that since the show was authentic about the lives of athletes and their women, she wanted to indicate that life still went on and had to figure out how to place everyone two years into the present.

Given that, she would do Girlfriends the same way and fans are not going to be sold over jumping into the now when they wanted to see the wedding of Joan and a reconciliation between her and Toni along with William's child being born.

Lastly in many interviews in 2007, Akil stated while she wanted to see a 9th season of Girlfirends, she had a good closure in place that fans will love. Unfortunately, the writers strike killed that. Jill Marie Jones even said, she would come back for a finale in an interview if they wanted to incorporate her character
