It's the closure we always wanted, but never got.
While making her media rounds for ABC's new hit show "black-ish," Tracee Ellis Ross stopped by "The Breakfast Club" to discuss the series, conversations about race, life as Diana Ross' daughter and more. But the inevitable question managed to slip its way through: What happened to "Girlfriends?" (http://www.lipstickalley.com/showthread.php?t=771870)
Six years after abruptly leaving the air, the sitcom is still a favorite among fans who long to see a proper ending for Joan, Toni, Maya and Lynn. In speaking with The Breakfast Club, Ross revealed she believes there was a final script for the show that would have tied up any and all loose ends.
"I actually think that there was a [final] script and I think Toni and Joan came back together," she said. "[...] And I think Joan got married."
As far as rumors of a "Girlfriends" movie, Ross said it was once a possibility, but it seems the project has been shelved.
"We were all game. I don't know what happened with that," she said. "But now, don't you think it's too long? Now I think it's too long. The girlfriends might look old."
Fans might never get to see a final farewell, but it's nice to know Joan and Toni had a happily ever after.
Catch episodes of "Girlfriends" weekdays at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. EST on Centric!
