Director Justus Addiss packs a heavy-handed punch with this tail of a jet plane (piloted by actor John Anderson as Cap. Farver) going back in time. Even Serling's narration is very heavy-handed --far more so than usual. However, he is not as great a director as Ted Post (see my previous threads on this) another TZ director. Addis fails to turn the actors into their characters as much as Post did. Only Anderson seems totally transformed into the character he is playing and that is obviously cause he was such a very fine actor. The actors (like male actor Sandy Kenyon and beauty actress Nancy Rennick) still seem just like they do in other shows just more serious--- not more transformed. The most effective TZ ep outside of Post's efforts is most likely this ep.

I have always enjoyed this episode. Then again, I am a sucker for time travel-themed shows.
The only thing that bothers me about this episode is the closing monologue. Serling says that in 1961, the plane is overdue and missing. That's true if they are missing from 1961 for the same amount of time they spend in the past and 1939. It just always rubbed me the wrong way. :)
