I have this thought: Do you think it matters what network a certain show originally aired on? (Not counting reruns, but I'm only counting original runs here.) A show originally airs on a network, then a number of decades later, a story/article (like the show's star's obituary, a high-profile reunion of the show's main cast, etc.) is written about a show without a single mention of what network the show originally aired on. I mean, are the people who are writing such articles/stories decades after the show's original run ended not even allowed to make the slightest mention of the network the show originally aired on (you know, for legal reasons, etc.) within that story/article?

it depends on what type of relationship the show has with the network - sometimes the network WAS the enemy. Notably when the network turns down script ideas or episodes for whatever reason, demands cast changes or additions, moves their time slot around, fails to give the show proper promotion or whatever else they felt like doing.

It should also be noted that all of the "Big 3" networks (ABC, CBS and NBC) are now owned by conglomerates that have their own TV production and syndication units (Disney-ABC, CBS Paramount, and NBC-Universal), and sometimes, those distribution subsidiaries have to distribute programmes that originally aired on the rival networks.

for me it does. if i am a fan of that show on that network and they chose to cancel it for some reason, then i would be upset with them for sure.

About the "networks-having-their-own-TV-distribution-subsidiaries" thing, I have this thought. Some Paramount TV-produced (and CBS-distributed)series didn't air on CBS. Would Happy Days, an ABC show, have made a good fit for the CBS network during its original run? Family Ties? Beverly Hills 90210?

Another consequence of the networks having their own TV distribution companies: The primetime soap opera Dynasty has its Spring 2006 "Catfights and Caviar" reunion air on CBS rather than the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), the network that originally aired Dynasty, because CBS/Paramount owns/distributes the series, and have released its seasons 2 to 9 on DVD. Season 1 was released by 20th Century Fox, and 20th Television distributed the series prior to the early-mid 2000s.

Can't allow a series owned/distributed by a competing network to reconnect with its former/original network. In any way.
