Hello Out There From TV Land,
This post is a big salute to the actors and their shows which "dared to bare" all on prime-time network Television.
1. Ed Flanders ("St. Elsewhere") -- Though "NYPD Blue" gets the credit, a full 6 years before that show's 1993 debut, Ed Flanders in 1987 (on his last regular episode of "St. Elsewhere" before returning for the series finale) dropped his pants and mooned not only Ronny Cox (portraying Dr. John Gideon), but also the home audience.
2. Gary Burghoff ("M*A*S*H") -- For those who wish to go back even further, a 1973 episode of the hit '70s Medical Drama "M*A*S*H" featured Gary Burghoff baring his naked ass for a split second (visible only if you, the home viewer, paused at exactly the right second).
3. The Olsen Twins ("Full House") -- In the series debut of the hit '80s sitcom "Full House," the Olsen Twins (aged 9 months old at the time of the series pilot) bared their naked asses as Michelle Tanner. (On a related note, Candace Bure bared her own ass, albeit BARELY visible behind a Shower Scene, in a scene from the USA Network Telefilm "Sharon's Secret.")
4. Drew Carey & Craig Ferguson ("The Drew Carey Show") -- In a 2011 interview with his old friend Craig Ferguson, in a scene where Drew & Craig and company performed a "Full Monty" scene in the courtroom (in the 1997 episode "The Dog and Pony Show"), Drew & Craig admitted that, at scene's end, that they were the only 2 actors who were 100% butt naked.
5. Fred Savage ("When You Remember Me") -- Best known for his role as Kevin Arnold on the hit '80s Family Drama "The Wonder Years," Fred starred in a 1990 telefilm, at age 15, titled "When You Remember Me," a fictional version of the true story of Mike Smith, who at age 14 was admitted by his divorced mother to an adult nursing home after being diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy (which made him Physically Disabled and eventually killed him at age 21), and soon witnessed first-hand cruelty to the Physically and Mentally Ill patients by Nurses who were supposed to care for him. A scene from that movie had the actor playing the orderly put a NAKED Fred on the Hospital Bed--and according to a TV Guide article, as is Standard Procedure, until the VERY last second (in regards to Nude Scenes in mainstream movies), Fred was covered in a robe until the VERY last second where he was 100% naked at the time the scene was filmed til scene's end.
6. Sherman Hemsley ("Amen") -- An episode of the hit '80s sitcom "Amen," created by Johnny Carson, had Sherman, except for a tie, strip completely naked in court--and RUMOR had it Sherman was 100% butt naked when the scene was filmed.
And there you have it: actors, I salute you.
