There's a thread for worst sitcom actress, so I thought I'd start one for worst actor. I tend not to pick on kids. These are after some cursory thought, and there are lots of others out there. So many standup comedians have turned into awful actors that they might warrant their own category:

Jim Bouton ("Ball Four," 1970s): he was really a baseball player and it showed. Didn't even really parley his baseball into an acting career - has only four acting credits in imdb.

Ashton Kutcher: no explanation needed.

Harry Anderson: unfortunately stretched "Night Court" into moralistic areas that Anderson wasn't equipped to handle.

Mike Ferrell: flip side to Anderson, hired to help bring MASH in a dramatic direction, gave a flat reading of pretty much anything comic.

Jerry Seinfeld: represents the standup comedians, although he claws back some points for making fun of his lack of ability within the show.

Others?

You want more? I'll give you more, starting with the men of Full House:

Bob Saget - His last name rhymes with what he reminds me of.

John Stamos - His hair has more talent than he does.

Dave Coulier - Dumber than a bag of rocks, and just as funny.

Tony Danza - Who died and made him "Boss"?.

Kirk Cameron and Alan Thicke - I went through many "Growing Pains", mainly jnside my colon, trying to watch them act.

Will Smith - I don't know what's worse: his acting, his music, or his children.

David Hasselhoff - No explanation needed.

Jaleel White - Ditto.

The Wayans Brothers - "In Living Color" was a success because of Jim Carrey, something they have never understood with every series they have done since.

David Spade - The worst sitcom actor on television today. Consistently putrid in everything he has ever done, both on TV and in movies.

Andy Richter - Tried to control the universe but failed miserably on all of his series.

McLean Stevenson - His record for sitcom failures post-MASH may never be broken, although Matthew Perry is giving it a good try.

Not a sitcom actor, but an "actor" : Nicholas Cage

Sitcom actor: I'll go with Tony Danza for now, but I need to think about it more.

Tony Danza for sure! Terrible actor.

John Travolta was GOD AWFUL on Welcome Back Kotter.

I would also mention Jon Cryer. talk about a terrible actor.

Then there is the sad sack that is Joey Lawrence. Just a terrible actor void of any actual range.

Jim Belushi on According to Jim. Talk about lack of talent.

Jeff Foxworthy comes to mind as well; so does Tim Allen.

Mike Farrell owns this category. I can't remember a single time on that series where I genuinely laughed at anything Farrell ever said or did.

Dick Sargent

Every male actor on "Friends" except Matt LeBlanc (he did an EXCELLENT job playing Joey Tribbani, especially early on)

Kevin James

Larry Pennell, who played "Dash Riprock" on The Beverly Hillbillies: I've seen his worked critiqued negatively in print on a couple of occasions, although I thought he did a good job when he guested on Family Affair.

Charlie Sheen in Two and a Half Men. How hard could it be to play yourself, and even he couldn't pull it off on that show. I haven't seen Anger Management so I don't know if he's improved.

Yikes, really? I have to disagree.

Brad Garrett won 3 Emmys for his role and in my opinion 100% completely helped turn the show around from it's mediocre first season to the classic ensemble cast it later became.

Also Romano snagged a win one year as well. As annoying as his voice is and yes he still remains obviously insecure to this day, this guy has some acting chops, he proved that in "Men of a Certain Age" and "Parenthood".

Everybody Loves Raymond had excellent writing and an excellent supporting cast.

That said, especially after watching the bloopers, neither Garrett nor Romano came across as very versatile to me. Instead, it seemed like they were just playing themselves.

Garrett, at least, proved this with the failed sitcom "'Til Death" and his lack of major roles since then. Part of this accolades alone probably came from the fact that he reminds people of Herman Munster with his stature and voice...

I will admit though, I haven't watched "Parenthood" nor "Men of a Certain Age." I will also admit that Jerry Seinfeld is much worse...

.. "'Til Death"

Horrible, awful show.

However it ran for 4 seasons on FOX...

Many of us hate (or have never seen) the show.

But Garret should be acknowledged as:

1. Star of a major network sitcom on two different networks.
2. Star of a four season run program.
3. Features a vastly different character!

Is 'Till Death an awful show?

Probably...

(I saw 4 or 5 episodes) and it was enough for me!

But was Brad Garrett terrible in "Raymond"?

Hell now!

He owed that role

...'Till Death' is currently widely seen in syndication for some strange odd reason.

Who knows?

Tony Danza - yeah terrible basically plays the same macho Brooklyn tough guy in every series he's in, writers probably think he's bad too since they name his character Tony in every show he's been in.

David Hasselhoff - as a kid I used to think he was the greatest actor ever but on Knight Rider he does a lot of overracting.

Ashton Kutcher - horrible in both movies and TV.

I agree x 1000 on Mike Farrell. His comedic timing was so poor that I had to tell myself he was saying something funny because of the half grin on his face. It's almost like he was trying way too hard to be as good as Wayne Rogers.

There are some shows like say for example Frasier, where it really was a show that depended on the actor's ability to do be funny. The writing alone therefore, wasn't enough. As a result, some of the visiting 'stars' for instance, just didn't have it and they really dragged their whole episodes down. What are some examples come to mind?

With so many bad sitcoms there's gonna be a lot of bad actors. Some good actors have been mentioned too. I'll say Danza (after Taxi) and Charlie Sheen. Sheen also rates as a pretty lousy person.

The worst lead actor on a hit show is Ray Romano on Everybody Loves Raymond. The other four main cast members were excellent but he was easily the weakest link. The worst lead actor ever might be Billy Connelly replacing Howard Hesseman on Head of the Class, but that probably wasn't a hit anymore being the last season.

Don Knotts. The man just didn't appeal to me in anything he did. I thought he was rather loud and annoying.

Bonnie Franklin - Shrill, hammy, over-the-top, annoying, downright humorless, yet somehow (possibly by luck and timing like her Tony nomination and friendship with Whitney Blake, who created On Day at a Time) got the lead on a sitcom.
