I think I understand a little more now why he hid the Three's A Crowd spinoff from Joyce and the other cast members. He actually WANTED to do that and wasn't being forced to by the producers. He probably thought Jack Tripper was going to have a lot more dramatic moments on TAC and probably thought the character would go through a significant transformation.
