Future of "Fashion Police" Uncertain Following Joan Rivers’ Death
by The Deadline Team
September 4, 2014

E! has issued the following statement on the sad news of Joan Rivers’ death and the future of "Fashion Police":

“Right now we are mourning our beloved Joan. We will respond at a later date with programming updates.”

E! had previously confirmed that "Fashion Police" will be on a 2-week hiatus following the hospitalization of host Joan Rivers.

“E! will not be producing a new ‘Fashion Police’ this week or next. Instead, we will be airing two ‘E! From Fashion Week’ specials that will deliver the latest news and information from the highly-anticipated event.”

Out of respect for Joan they should probably cancel the program, she was the whole gimmick to the show they can't just flat out bring somebody else to try and "act" like Joan what's the whole point.

Although if they continue with the show then a format in style would be needed.

Isaac Mizrahi would be a great successor to the show

RIP Joan Rivers.

E! To Continue "Fashion Police" without Joan Rivers
by Lisa de Moraes
September 19, 2014

Hours before E! is scheduled to air its Joan Rivers tribute episode of "Fashion Police" as part of today’s Joan Day marathon, the network has announced it will continue the franchise despite the death of its most important on-air team member.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Joan Rivers and, for the last two weeks, have turned our attention to honoring her memory on all of our platforms. We have also thought long and hard about what Joan would have wanted as it pertains to the future of Fashion Police,” the network said moments ago in a statement.

“We decided, with Melissa Rivers’ blessing, that Joan would have wanted the franchise to continue. Fashion Police will return in 2015 commencing with Golden Globes coverage on Monday, January 12. No further details will be announced at this time.”

E! is hosting a Joan Day marathon today. The network where Rivers became known to a younger generation as the queen of red-carpet snark, began its "Fashion Police" marathon at 7 AM ET.

Among the episodes scheduled were her 80th birthday celebration, and the final episode she did in which she critiqued red carpet outfits for MTV Video Music Awards and Primetime Emmy Awards. At 8 PM ET/PT, the network is scheduled to telecast a 90-minute tribute special, Fashion Police: Celebrating Joan.

Rivers was hospitalized on August 28 after she stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest during what was reported to be a routine procedure at a New York clinic. She died September 4 at age 81.

Well, hate to say it but this show just jumped-the-shark. It will never be the same without Joan Rivers.

E!'s Fashion Police: Celebrating Joan Delivers Record Ratings
by Vlada Gelman
September 22, 2014

E!’s tribute to late comic Joan Rivers, Fashion Police: Celebrating Joan, drew 1.1 million viewers on Friday night, more than double the year-ago time period average (or up 127%), our sister site Deadline reports.

The 90-minute special, which looked back at host Rivers’ time on the weekly celebrity-style roundup, followed an all-day marathon of old "Fashion Police" episodes and gave the network its most-watched and highest-rated Friday in more than two years.

"Fashion Police" will continue without Rivers in 2015, starting with Golden Globes coverage on Monday, Jan. 12, E! announced last week.

"Fashion Police" Narrows Search for Joan Rivers' Replacement
9/24/14
by Seth Abramovitch

An insider tells THR that a shortlist of replacements for "Fashion Police" has been drawn up, with female and male comedians in the mix.

One name in serious contention is Kathy Griffin — though the source dismisses a Page Six report claiming Griffin, 53, campaigned for the gig while Rivers was in a coma as "ridiculous."

No formal conversations have been held with anyone, however, as E! execs feel not enough time has passed since Rivers' early September death and that Melissa — who will continue to serve as executive producer — should be involved.

At this point, it's anyone's game. Billy Eichner, are you listening?

Kathy Griffin Set as New "Fashion Police" Host, Brad Goreski Also Joins E! Show
by Nellie Andreeva
December 1, 2014

Comedian Kathy Griffin has closed a deal with E! to succeed the late Joan Rivers as co-host of "Fashion Police". Griffin will be one Brad-Goreski-900-600of two new faces to join the panel next year, along with celebrity stylist and TV personality Brad Goreski who replaces original co-host George Kotsiopoulos.

They will sit alongside returning panelists Kelly Osbourne and Giuliana Rancic.

“I get it! These are some big shoes I’m going to fill. Joan was truly one of a kind. Now I hope you will accept me for me,” Griffin said.

“I’m just Kathy. Did I say I’m just Kathy? I meant I’m Kathy F***ing Griffin and you celebrities better strap yourself in, as I am taking no prisoners. I am not holding back so DAMMIT let’s have some fun!”

Also changing is the format of "Fashion Police", which will no longer be a weekly program but will air 17 episodes throughout the year, focused on the biggest red carpet and fashion events of 2015 including the Oscars, Grammys, Emmys and New York Fashion Week.

Its first installment will air on Monday, January 12, dedicated to Golden Globes coverage.

Getting "Fashion Police" back on its feet was one of the first priorities for longtime Bravo topper Frances Berwick who recently added E! to her purview. To do so she reached to talent from Bravo’s roster.

Berwick has had a long, close and collaborative relationship with Griffin, who was a staple on Bravo for years, winning two best reality program Emmys for the long-running "My Life on the D-List", shared with Berwick, who served as an executive producer.

Berwick also gave Goreski his own reality series, "It’s a Brad Brad World", on Bravo, after he broke out on the network’s "The Rachel Zoe Project".

Griffin emerged as a leading candidate to succeed Rivers immediately following the sudden death of the veteran comedian on September 4.

With the blessing of Rivers’ daughter, "Fashion Police" executive producer Melissa Rivers, E! announced in September that "Fashion Police" will continue, returning with originals in January. Attention focused on Griffin, who was friends with Rivers and has a similar comedic sensibility.

“Not only was Joan a trailblazer, she was also a dear friend and mentor to Kathy, who will no doubt continue her legacy and do the series justice by bringing her own unique comedic style and tell-it-like-it-is personality to the host chair,” said Jeff Olde, EVP Programming and Development at E!

“Plus, the addition of trendsetting stylist Brad completes the panel as the show begins its next chapter, which will focus on covering the major award shows and fashion events throughout the year.”

"Fashion Police" is produced by Wilshire Studios. Melissa Rivers and Lisa Bacon serve as executive producers.

“Kathy just feels right, and Brad brings a fun, new voice to join Giuliana and Kelly in this ensemble,” said Rivers. “I’m excited to see where this panel takes this series my mother so adored in this next incarnation.”

Kathy Griffin as new host of Fashion Police? Given the reasons stated at the Deadline article (Joan Rivers being a good friend and mentor to Kathy Griffin, etc.) no one should be surprised by this news.
