Jolie, Pitt Wed Privately at Chateau in France
by JAKE COYLE
Aug. 28, 2014

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were married Saturday in the French hamlet of Correns, a spokesman for the couple says.

Jolie and Pitt wed in a small chapel in a private ceremony attended by family and friends at Provence's Chateau Miraval. In advance of the nondenominational civil ceremony, Pitt and Jolie obtained a marriage license from a local California judge. The judge also conducted the ceremony in France.

The couple's children took part in the wedding. Jolie walked the aisle with her eldest sons Maddox and Pax. Zahara and Vivienne threw flower petals. Shiloh and Knox served as ring bearers, the spokesman says.

Jolie and Pitt's wedding caps years of rampant speculation on when the couple would officially tie the knot. Pitt once said that he didn't want to marry until gay marriage was legal, but in recent years, both said they intended to. They were engaged in early 2012 after some seven years together.

"It's an exciting prospect, even though for us, we've gone further than that," Pitt told The Associated Press in an interview in November 2012. "But to concretize it in that way, it actually means more to me than I thought it would. It means a lot to our kids."

They have six children together, including three they adopted:

13-year-old Maddox, from Cambodia; 10-year-old Pax, from Vietnam; and 9-year-old Zahara, from Ethiopia. The couple's three biological children are 8-year-old Shiloh, and Knox and Vivienne, 6-year-old twins.

This is the second marriage for Pitt, who wed Jennifer Aniston in 2000. They divorced in 2005.

Jolie was previously married to British actor Jonny Lee Miller for three years in the late '90s and to Billy Bob Thornton for three years before divorcing in 2003.

Both Jolie and Pitt are prepping movies.

Jolie's second directorial effort, the World War II odyssey Unbroken, will be released in December. Pitt stars in the upcoming World War II drama Fury, due out Oct. 17.

That's great. I'm happy for them. I knew they'd end up getting married sooner or later.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's Family Wedding Album Appears in PEOPLE
by Mary Green and Michelle Tauber
9/1/14

When Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie went about planning their big day, they didn't have to look far to find the perfect wedding planners: their six children.

The intimate Aug. 23 ceremony – attended by just 20 friends and family members – was held in the chapel of Château Miraval, the family's estate in the French village of Correns. The wedding – including exclusive photos of the ceremony, Jolie's unique dress (decorated with her children's artwork!) and the entire family's celebration – is featured in this week's issue of PEOPLE, in conjunction with Hello! magazine internationally.

Each child had a key role to play: Eldest sons Maddox, 13, and Pax, 10, walked their mom down the aisle; flower girls Zahara, 9, and Vivienne, 6, tossed petals gathered from the garden; and Shiloh, 8, and Knox, 6, served as ring bearers. The kids also helped write their parents' vows. And Pax baked the cake!

"It was important to us that the day was relaxed and full of laughter," Pitt, 50, and Jolie, 39, tell PEOPLE. "It was such a special day to share with our children and a very happy time for our family."

Even Jolie's dress was an expression of her kids' creativity: Luigi Massi, the master tailor at Atelier Versace, sewed dozens of designs from her children's drawings into the dress and veil.

"Luigi is like family to me and I couldn't imagine anyone else making this dress," says Jolie. "He knows and cares for the children and it was great fun putting it together."

Pitt wore a suit from his closet – with a tie borrowed from one of his sons because Pitt forgot to pack his. Zahara's dress was designed by family friend Adama Kebe. Maddox, Pax, Shiloh, and Knox wore black suits (Shiloh's included shorts and a top hat), and Vivienne wore a white dress from her closet.

Jeweler Robert Procop, who designed Jolie's engagement ring, created the couple's wedding bands.

Angelina Jolie Files for Divorce from Brad Pitt
by Lisa Respers France and Brian Stelter, CNN
9/20/16

One of Hollywood's highest profile marriages is over. Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from husband Brad Pitt, citing irreconcilable differences.

According to the court documents, the pair separated on September 15, two years and one month after they married in August 2014. Jolie is seeking physical custody of their six children and asking the court to grant Pitt visitation.

She is also asking to keep "miscellaneous jewelry and other personal effects" as well as any earnings from after the date of their separation and other separate assets to be determined later.

Already there is speculation that a tabloid-friendly, child-unfriendly custody battle may ensue over their six children. But a source close to them asserted that both sides want a cordial breakup.

"Other than the fame of the people involved, this is like so many other divorces," the source said.

"I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids," Pitt said Tuesday in a statement to CNN. "I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."

Jolie's camp is also focused on the children. "This decision was made for the health of the family," Robert Offer, an attorney for Jolie told CNN in a statement Tuesday. "She will not be commenting at this time, and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time."

While Pitt and Jolie married in 2014, their relationship became the subject of speculation in 2004, when they co-starred in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. At the time, Pitt was married to actress Jennifer Aniston.

In January 2005, Pitt and Aniston announced they were splitting and Aniston filed for divorce a few months later.

The couple announced their engagement in 2012.

Pitt was there to support Jolie in 2013 when she underwent a preventive double mastectomy.

Angelina Jolie Comments on "Difficult" Split from Brad Pitt
by Alexia Fernandez
Feb. 20, 2017

Angelina Jolie opened up about her shocking split from Brad Pitt for the first time since filing for divorce.

The actress and director spoke to BBC World News‘ Yalda Hakim in Cambodia in an interview that was released on Sunday. When asked about the split, Jolie revealed that it had been a “difficult” time for her family.

“I don’t want to say very much about that, except to say it was a very difficult time and… and we are a family and we will always be a family, and we will get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it,” she said.

Jolie, 41, was in Cambodia to promote her new directorial effort, the film First They Killed My Father. The mother-of-six said she was coping by maintaining a focus on her children: Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8.

“Many, many people find themselves in this situation,” she said. “My whole, my family… we’ve all being through a difficult time. My focus is my children, our children… and my focus is finding this way through. We are and forever will be a family. I am coping with finding a way through to make sure that this somehow makes us stronger and closer.”

Since her divorce filing from Pitt, 53, Jolie revealed that her children and pets have been trying to find a normal rhythm.

“It’s been a difficult few months. Right now, I’m going through a moment when just everybody’s in my room,” she said, laughing. “Two dogs, two hamsters and two children at the moment. It’s wonderful. But, usually, I just wake up trying to figure out who’s going to get the dog out, who’s going to start the pancakes and did anybody brush their teeth.”

When asked where she saw herself in five years, Jolie couldn’t help but realize she’d have a house full of teenagers by then.

“At that stage, I hope just standing,” she said, joking about being outnumbered. “In five years’ time, I would like to be traveling around the world visiting my children, hoping that they’re just happy and doing really interesting things, and I imagine in many different parts of the world, and I’ll be supporting them.”

“Everything I do I hope is that I represent something, and I represent the right things to my children and give them the right sense of what they’re capable of, and the world as it should be seen,” Jolie added. “Not through the prism of Hollywood or through a certain kind of life, but really take them into the world, where they have a really good sense and become rounded people.”

Angelina Jolie Opens Up about "Difficult" Brad Pitt Divorce, Reveals Bell's Palsy Diagnosis
by Jodi Guglielmi
July 26, 2017

Angelina Jolie is speaking out for the first time about her public divorce from Brad Pitt.

“It’s just been the hardest time, and we’re just kind of coming up for air,” Jolie, 42, told Vanity Fair in its latest cover story. “This house is a big jump forward for us, and we’re all trying to do our best to heal our family.”

Jolie and Pitt called it quits after 12 years together in September. And while the split came as a shock to many, the actress admits that their marriage began to crumble while filming her latest directorial effort First They Killed My Father in Cambodia last summer.

“Things got bad,” says Jolie. “I didn’t want to use that word. . . . Things became ‘difficult.’”

In the interview, Jolie also reveals that she developed Bell’s Palsy last year, a result of damage to facial nerves, causing one side of her face to droop. “Sometimes women in families put themselves last,” she says, “until it manifests itself in their own health.”

After having a preventative double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery and later her ovaries removed, she says she immediately went into menopause. Joking about how the past year has taken a toll on her, she quips, “I can’t tell if it’s menopause or if it’s just been the year I’ve had.”

As for her family, Jolie plainly states that their globe-trotting lifestyle “was not the problem” that led to her divorce.

“Our lifestyle was not in any way a negative,” she says. “That was not the problem. That is and will remain one of the wonderful opportunities we are able to give our children . . . They’re six very strong-minded, thoughtful, worldly individuals. I’m very proud of them.”

Still, she admits the divorce has been hard on their six kids Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 10, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 8.

“They’ve been very brave,” she said. “They were very brave.”

Five days before she filed for divorce, the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services and the FBI launched an investigation after Pitt allegedly got “verbally abusive” and “physical” with Maddox, his and Jolie‘s oldest child, after drinking on the couple’s private plane on Sept. 14.

They concluded that there were no findings of abuse and the former couple released a joint statement saying they were working with a private judge to resolve their divorce and would “act as a united front” moving forward.

The FBI closed the criminal case with no charges.

“We’re all just healing from the events that led to the filing . . . They’re not healing from divorce,” Jolie says of the kids. “They’re healing from some . . . from life, from things in life.”
