You would think it wouldn't be that hard for one roommate to come up with $100 rent each month, even in 1977.
Then again most of the time it was probably Jack who was holding things up with his share. I'm sure Chrissy and Janet were always prompt because they had steady jobs.
And I meant the title of the thread should be $300 rent in 1977. What would that be in today's dollars?

The $1180 divided by 3 would be near $400 per person. Plus all the other bills, maybe $500-$550 per person total in today's dollars.
I think that's a lot of money for low-paying jobs that Chrissy and Janet seemed to have. But they also always had beer money and cash for great clothes and shoes, so maybe after paying for all that they were short.

They were baby boomers. They spent their money on a lot of consumer goods they didn't need all the time I'm sure. These folks led busy lives and spent their money to do it.
I live in Austin. I tell you, if around here you only end up spending $550 a month for your share of rent and utilities, you're getting off cheap. Not even Section 8 housing is that cheap around here :lol: I think Janet and Chrissy didn't save that much either, it's just they had more money in general than Jack did because they had steady jobs.
