by THR Staff

Norman Lear appeared alongside fellow producers Carl Reiner and Allan Burns for THR's Emmy Producer's photoshoot. He said that CBS had major concerns about "All in the Family's" groundbreaking material.

"It took 3 years to get the show on the air. They were worried that we were saying the wrong thing. The network was worried about everything concerning the tone of the show.

Especially the main character and what he might say next. It was real people facing real problems."

At least the show was aired and became a hit.

Plus it wasn't any controversial sitcoms on in the 60's so that;s probably why it took so long

It is too bad that networks don't take a risk with something new now, because Lord knows the prime-time TV schedule could use a major shakeup.
