That the Emmys have been relegated to a Monday night in August (http://www.vulture.com/2014/08/emmys-2014-telecast-monday-explainer.html) this year should be a cause for concern. Yes, the Emmys had an eight-year high last year, but that was thanks to football. As Verne Gay notes, the Emmys are "sliding into, if not outright irrelevance, then senescence … That's the harsh view, and maybe an unfair one, but the numbers appear to confirm that slow, inexorable slide.”

I don't watch any Awards shows, ESPECIALLY the Academy Awards. :angryfire On the morning after when I read the list the "Big Winners" (Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, etc.) invariably go to an Obscure, often Foreign-Made Movie that doesn't interest me.

No, "The Late show with David Letterman" received 5 straight consecutive wins.

And they were among the show's most awful, boring (old hat) work.

That was the end for me, also (along the same lines with Letterman) NBC submits the Hugh Grant interview for "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno) and then Leno wins the award.

Then the camera quickly pans to very red, cherry faced close up of Letterman.

This was the broadcast on NBC in a moment to destroy CBS's 'Late Show'.

It was the last time "The Tonight show" ever won and the last time Letterman ever showed his face at the Emmy's.

And he once hosted the ceremonies a decade before!...

In the end, I realized it was all superficial theater, it became obvious; who ever owned the rights to the broadcast got to filter their finger in the wins.

Kinda like a reality tv show, I guess?

True points in fact:

1. Letterman was the best variety show in 1995 (they later tried to apologize for the next 5 broadcast by awarding him as best 'variety' show; but at least he had the balls to never show up for any one rest)

2. Leno outgrew Letterman in the rating in 1996, but yet "The Tonight Show" never won again with Leno.

The Emmy's are a joke; it's now ironic that cable tv series (remember when they all used to suck) are all favorites and all the broadcast on network television (suddenly suck and rarely get nominated).

These awards all suck!

How about one win and an actor, actress or TV show is elevated to the Hall of Fame and out of the running for future awards? PLUS: Why not divide shows into “new” and “continuing” (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/style-blog/wp/2014/08/26/all-those-jokes-about-cable-vs-streaming-make-me-think-it-really-is-time-for-some-emmy-reform/)?, and 2015 could be a shake-up year (http://grantland.com/hollywood-prospectus/2014-primetime-emmys-review-breaking-bad/) without “Breaking Bad” and with Amy Poehler and Jon Hamm departing.

Regarding the award show that aired the night before this year's Emmys:
5 Reasons Why the VMAs No Longer Matter (http://www.lipstickalley.com/showthread.php?t=755771)

Please kill the MTV VMAs (http://www.chicagoreader.com/Bleader/archives/2014/08/26/please-kill-the-mtv-video-music-awards)

What’s the point of MTV handing out awards for videos when it’s not associated with music acts?

I used to remember a time when cable shows had their own awards shows called the Cable Ace awards but now their all being lumped together with network shows.

The MTV awards are only watchable to see somebody do something outrageous but the majority of it is garbage and I hate how the audience will whoop and holler over every stupid musical act on stage.
