The first crazy storyline that comes to mind is the Brady Bunch's ill-fated trip to Hawaii with the evil tikki idol and the shaman and then Don Ho showed up...

I was thinking of the guy who drowned in a bowl of chicken soup on Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman as most insane storyline ever. Second is the whole alien burt storyline on Soap.

i can think of half a dozen other story lines on Soap that were pretty crazy
- the baby being possessed by the devil
- the entire situation with the Major
- Danny being tricked into trying to kill his stepfather Burt by the mafia and then going through all those crazy disguises when he goes into hiding for refusing to kill him
- Chuck and Bob
- Chester's amnesia
- Billy joining the Sunnies cult
- Jessica getting involved with el Puerco and the Revolutionaries

I think you can nominate probably just about the whole "Green Acres" series as insane storylines!

But "Green Acres" was a good kind of crazy!!
I would say "Family Matters" would be in a top 10 list for the whole Steve/Stefan storyline.

turning HAPPY DAYS from a nice gentle sitcom about a "nuclear family" in the 50s into "the Fonzie show" and changing the setting from the 50s to the 70s/early 80s with a small amt. of the 50s tossed in.

Roseanne wins the lottery.
The Lilith-scientist affair in 'Cheers', with the storyline of the two going to live on some kind of undrground bubble.

Golden Girls: Rose's boyfriend Miles turns out to be on the run from the mob.
Punky Brewster had quite a few---the infamous cave episode, Punky being afraid the Southside Stalker will kill Henry, and Cherie hiding in a fridge and Punky has to perform CPR. That story was the winning entry of a contest where kids could send in ideas for episodes.
Roseanne: The lottery, Roseanne and Jackie's mom turns out to be a lesbian, and the series finale.
The only seen episode of Heil Honey I'm Home and the entire run of The Secret Diary of Desmond Pffeifer.

I was thinking about that the other night. It seemed so out of character for Lilith.
If Cheers jumped the shark at any moment, it was with that last season storyline...
