Oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams has died at age 63, according to police in Marin County, Calif.

The full statement is below.

On August 11, 2014, at approximately 11:55 a.m, Marin County Communications received a 9-1-1 telephone call reporting a male adult had been located unconscious and not breathing inside his residence in unincorporated Tiburon, CA. The Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Tiburon Fire Department and Southern Marin Fire Protection District were dispatched to the incident with emergency personnel arriving on scene at 12:00 pm. The male subject, pronounced deceased at 12:02 pm has been identified as Robin McLaurin Williams, a 63-year-old resident of unincorporated Tiburon, CA.

An investigation into the cause, manner, and circumstances of the death is currently underway by the Investigations and Coroner Division s of the Sheriff’s Office. Preliminary information developed during the investigation indicates Mr. Williams was last seen alive at his residence, where he resides with his wife, at approximately 10:00 pm on August 10, 2014. Mr. Williams was located this morning shortly before the 9-1-1 call was placed to Marin County Communications. At this time, the Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made. A forensic examination is currently scheduled for August 12, 2014 with subsequent toxicology testing to be conducted.

Williams' publicist Mara Buxbaum told The Hollywood Reporter: “Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

His wife, Susan Schneider, said: "This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin's family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin's death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”

Williams, a four-time Oscar nominee, won a supporting actor Oscar for Good Will Hunting. He most recently starred in CBS' comedy The Crazy Ones, which lasted only one season.

He recently checked into rehab in an effort to maintain his sobriety.

I grew up watching Jumanji, and it is still one of my all time favorite movies.

I wasn't a big fan of most of his movies but I did like Good Morning Vietnam, Mrs. Doubtfire and Dead Poets Society.

Wow. Utterly stunned.

I loved "Mork and Mindy", for a lot of reasons, but chief among them was that Williams just cracked me up. It was obvious he was having a ball with the show, and I loved to watch him on talk shows, too.

He struck me as a gentle, caring man. You can never know a celeb, of course, just from their work, but he usually played characters who were, at their core, very kind hearted and decent.

So sad that things are pointing toward his taking his own life. He gave so much pleasure and laughter to so many, to end up this way is so tragic.

Loved him in "Moscow on the Hudson", "The World According to Garp", "The Fisher King", "Mrs. Doubtfire", "Good Morning, Vietnam", "One Hour Photo" and I'm sure others I am forgetting.

RIP Robin, and thanks for being you.

I saw Popeye with my brother and then sister in law back in 1980, when I was just 16. I liked it, too. Captured that world well. Wasn't drop dead funny but I don't think it was supposed to be; more dryly humorous, a type of comedy that seems to have sadly died in the past 20 years or so.

Never saw Hook. But Williams was always taking a risk and doing different kinds of roles. He made a LOT of films, a lot of them 'meh', but several of them classics in my mind.

He had a great movie presence, no matter what. You saw him and you instantly wanted things to be OK for him. He just had that type of aura.

I know what you mean. I don't think I've been this stunned since John Ritter died. They just interviewed Henry Winkler on CNN. He had a lot of nice things to say about Robin.

Oh my goodness! What a shock! The article said that he had been suffering depression. I sure hope it wasn't a suicide. I sure hope he is at peace now. :(

I was shocked and sad to read this on my newsfeed today. Williams was a very good actor, as well as person, and could pull off being both funny and serious.

Billy Crystal will present tribute to Robin Williams at Monday's Emmy Awards, executive producer Don Mischer said on Tuesday.

Sara Bareilles will handle the In Memoriam musical duties. Following Williams' suicide, Bareilles dedicated her song "Hercules" to his memory and family.

In other Emmy news, at the red carpet rollout and Emmy's Governors Ball preview in downtown, Los Angeles, Calif., Mischer said that there will be 26 awards handed out in three hours on Monday.

The final two awards of the night will be Best Drama and Best Comedy.

SHOCKING!!! I would have never expected Robin to die so young. He had so much life in him and seemed so happy. R.I.P my friend we all will miss you. :-(

I saw Robin last weekend in his last movie The Angriest Man In Brooklyn with Mila Kunis and James Earl Jones. Very funny movie. LOL@scene when Robin went to a store to buy a video camera and James Earl Jones worked there. Robin tried to buy a video camera and when James talked to him, he was stuttering a lot and that pissed off Robin hahahahahahahahahaha. Robin mocked him when he asked him a question about which video camera was better and he was stuttering like James hahahahahahahahahahahaha. RIP Robin. I wanna say to the people who think Robin is a coward for killing himself, shut the hell up. I get so sick and tired of people dissing suicidal people. If Robin wanted to kill himself because he got tired of being depressed, that's his business. I understand he had a family and it may be selfish to kill yourself when you have a family but it's obvious that Robin was suffering quietly and he didn't wanna tell anybody so he could get help. So he figured killing himself would stop the suffering.


Sometimes i think about killing myself because i get tired of being unemployed which iam right now and i've been unemployed since the end of June. I had a job that i loved and i was there for almost 9 years and i was let go because they hired a contractor so the company could save money and not have to pay me medical insurance and dental insurance. I loved my job so much that i wanted to retire from there. Now i gotta start all over again at a new job and build my time up. I learned a lesson from losing my last job that i will never again work my ass off to please my boss because my performance doesn't mean sh*t to my boss and management because when they're ready to get rid of you, they're gonna do it and they don't give a damn about you.


This crap has happened to so many people and it continues to happen but yet and still employed people wanna diss unemployed people and say that they're lazy and don't wanna work when that's bullsh*t. Can't nobody call me lazy because i used to work 2 jobs for 9 years and not too many black men have done that. I also worked 2 jobs for a long time when i lived in Cleveland. I can definitely understand why some unemployed people wanna kill themselves because being without money for a long time can make you depressed and suicidal because nobody can survive without money.

I was completely shocked by his untimely death and just last week I watched a tribute to him on Charlie Rose. I liked it a lot b/c it wasn't a lot of talking about how wonderful he was. Rather they showed clips of his past appearances on the show, all of which were hilarious but it was the scenes where he was talking about his children and how much he loved life that really got to me. So tragic that no one really knew that he was struggling and there was no way to help him. I wasn't a big fan of his but I loved his earlier movies like Awakenings, Hook and Dead Poet's Society.

I Was surprised then I found out he had the Parkinson's disease I think that's why he killed him self. that what my other favorite actor Michael j fox has. my favorite robin Williams movie is Mrs. doubt fire I also like him in hook, I also rented recently rented old dogs if you wont good funny movie I highly recommend old dogs its got John Travolta and robin Williams if you never seen if I highly recommend it I never laugh so hard watching that movie I also recommend RV is also another funny movie of robin Williams I also like mork & Mindy TV series
