Report: James Corden Replacing Craig Ferguson as Host of "The Late Late Show"

James Corden is set to take over as host of "The Late Late Show", TheWrap reports. In April, Craig Ferguson announced he was stepping down as host after 10 years. Ferguson will end his run in Dec., when his contract with CBS expires.

Corden is best known for his award-winning role in "Gavin & Stacey", which he co-wrote and co-created. He currently stars in the action-comedy The Wrong Mans and will appear in the upcoming theatrical adaptation of Into the Woods as The Baker.



In 2012, he won a Tony Award for his starring role in One Man, Two Guvnors. And while Corden has never hosted a late night program before, the British actor has hosting experience from his tenure on Sky1's sports-based comedy panel series "A League of Their Own".

wow - that just seems like a really weird choice.

I mean I LOVE Gavin & Stacey and he was awesome in it and everything else I've seen him in, but it doesn't seem like it would translate well to a "talk show" (or as he would call it a "chat show") and he is probably all but totally unknown to most American viewers.

It's official: James Corden will take over hosting duties for "The Late Late Show" in 2015.

After several weeks of speculation, CBS confirmed Monday that Corden, 36, will replace Craig Ferguson, who announced in April that he will be leaving the show at the end of this year.





"James Corden is a rare entertainment force who combines irresistible charm, warmth and originality with a diverse range of creative instincts and performance talent," CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler said in a statement.

"He is the ultimate multi-hyphenate — a writer, creator and performer who is loved and respected in every medium he touches, including theater, comedy, music, film and television. James is already a big star in the UK and he's wowed American audiences on Broadway; we're very excited to introduce his considerable and very unique talents to our network television audience on a daily basis."



Added Corden: "I can't describe how thrilled and honored I am to be taking over from the brilliant Craig Ferguson. To be asked to host such a prestigious show on America's No. 1 network is hugely exciting. I can't wait to get started, and will do my very best to make a show America will enjoy."

"The Late Late Show with James Corden" Will Premiere On...

"The Late Late Show with James Corden" will premiere Monday, March 9, CBS announced Thursday.

Craig Ferguson, who announced in April that he was stepping down after 10 years, will sign off on Friday, Dec. 19. CBS did not say what would air during the three-month gap.

Additionally, British producer and director Ben Winter (The X Factor, One Direction concert films) will serve as Corden's executive producer. A longtime friend of Corden's, Winter produced the four Brit Awards shows that Corden has hosted.





"We're excited to begin CBS' next chapter after midnight and introduce James' wide range of performance talents and fearless creative instincts to American television viewers," CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler said in a statement.

"He and Ben have been friends for a long time and partnered together on a variety of successful projects. They are a creatively dynamic and very energetic host/producer combination."

A Tony-winning actor, Corden can next be seen in Into the Woods, which hits theaters on Christmas.

I'm tired of this BS assumption that we have to go to Britain to find someone funny enough to host a LATE LATE LATE show with a handful of viewers anyway. America has talent. We don't always have to run to jolly ol' England or down under to find talent.

James Corden's First Guest Announced

Soon-to-be "Late Late Show" host James Corden has found his first guest. Tom Hanks will visit the CBS show for Corden's first night as host the show announced via Twitter.

Corden will make his hosting debut on Monday, March 23.



The show has seen a slew of rotating guest hosts since Craig Ferguson's exit in December, including Regis Philbin, Drew Carey and Whitney Cummings.

I've watched him this week (I haven't really been watching late night talk shows for several years now) just out of curiosity and I really like the guy, I'm now a fan. Yes he's humble, charming, warm, outgoing and really funny. And he's multitalented in that he acts, sings, writes, and has also produced from what I've read. I think he's much more likable than any American talk show host that's on the air right now and I don't care if he is British! And he doesn't seem the least bit mean or cynical, but he doesn't really do a "monologue" and yes they do have all the guests come out and talk together, except the bands and singers. It's something different and I like it. I wish Mr. Corden lots of success and I hope he's on the air for many years. His parents came over from England and were in the audience for his debut episode, I thought that was really nice.

Ed. P.S., I forgot to say I do think his laugh is kind of annoying but that's a small thing. And he was overdoing it a bit with how he kept commenting about how he didn't know how he was picked to host the show. But I'm sure once he gets comfortable hosting that'll stop.

Johnny Carson did some skits and whatnot (especially in the 1970's), and although sometimes they were hilarious, mostly they were dumb, old school and oddly something seen in a Moose Hall skit in Clugger, Nebraska.

Carson's gift was his monologue, his sense of wit, and being an excellent interviewer. Maybe that is what is missed now. The post WWII generation of performers were the A List, and nothing the subsequent generations have done can match it. Now in 2016, there is so much more competition out there. Most people have 50 different channels, 20 of them they might watch all the time. The Big Four networks are not that special anymore and they do not have superior content anymore from any of the alternate networks.

I guess the "Late Night Show" format is popular, since NBC, CBS and ABC all have these types of shows and NBC and CBS have the same type show back to back. Not that much of a fan of these shows, but will watch a clip on YouTube if there is someone I am interested in seeing.


Now, I have not seen much more than a random clip of any of these shows now, and I rather avoid them because it is all about Hollyweird, money, bad political jokes, and whatever.

I discovered James Corden when I saw him provide the voice of Biggie in Dreamworks Trolls and I never knew James Corden is from The Late Late Show and since then I have been collecting pictures of James Corden and now I even have a stuffed version of Biggie that I got for my birthday that's my favorite James Corden merchandise and also my favorite stuffed Troll that I cuddle with every night at bedtime. Who knew that The Late Late Show would make James Corden a huge household name after he replaced Craig Ferguson as host and not only did CBS pick a great choice to replace Craig that was funny but also very awesome. And with stars such as Tom Hanks and Jennifer Lopez and many celebrity favorites James Corden has impressively made his mark in TV and he has scored a home run out of the ballpark with The Late Late Show and it has proved it well for CBS
