"American Idol" Alum Michael Johns Dies at 35

Michael Johns, a finalist on "American Idol's" seventh season, has passed away at the age of 35.

The administrator of Johns' fan site shared the news on Saturday: "It is with a heavy heart and inconsolable sadness that we confirm the passing of our friend Michael Johns. No other details will b avail at this time. Please respect the privacy of Mike's family and friends as we know u will."

Though no cause of death has been released, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter it was a blood clot in Johns' ankle.





The Australian singer-songwriter competed on the long-running Fox reality show in 2008, making it to the Top 8. During his tenure on Idol, he was the subject of a minor controversy because he'd been signed to a major music label, Maverick, and recorded an album before he auditioned for the show.

Following his elimination, Johns released the full-length album Hold Back My Heart in 2009, which included the single "Heart on My Sleeve." He released the single "Day Breaks Sun" in February of this year.

Johns is survived by his wife Stacey Vuduris.

Very sad! Really sorry to hear this. I remember him from AI! The season he was on was one of my favorites. He was pretty good too! Way to young to pass!

"American Idol" Alum Michael Johns' Death: New Details Emerge

New details from the Orange County Coroner’s report have revealed that "American Idol" season-seven finalist Michael Johns died from an enlarged heart and a "fatty liver."

The 35-year-old singer, who died on Aug. 1 after sustaining an injury to his leg, was originally reported to have passed from a blood clot in his ankle. Members of his family had said the injury triggered a blood clot, but other sources said alcohol was to blame, according to TMZ.

A "fatty liver" can be caused by drinking excessive amounts of alcohol.





The Orange County Coroner's report concludes that Johns died of dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition that inhibited the flow of blood to his body and caused his heart to enlarge.

Johns competed on the Fox music show in 2008, finishing in eighth place. He followed with a full-length album, 2009's 'Hold Back My Heart', which included the single, 'Heart on My Sleeve'.
