Michael is not seen at all in part 2.

Popeye was a character from The French Connection movie. I thought he was talking about Popeye The Sailorman who gets his incredible strength from spinach, LOL, and was wondering why the little boy was comparing Diana's Dad to the fictional sailorman. When I found out about the French Connection movie, it all made sense.

It was the French Connection 2 movie that was out in the theaters when this episode was filmed in 1975

Thanks, that explains it.

"What did you expect, Popeye, the french connection?"

I never understood the joke because I've never seen the movie. The only Popeyes that I've ever been familiar with are Popeye The Sailor Man and Popeyes Chicken.

I know what you mean. I googled an image of this Popeye Doyle character and he looks NOTHING like Mr. Buchanan.

I'm not positive about this, but if my memory serves me correctly. Popeye Doyle was an undercover narcotics detective in the French Connection. The Evan's and JJ's fiancés parents lured the kid who brought the drugs to the apartment (like an undercover drug bust). Popeye being an undercover narc cop, that was what the kid was referring to. He could have called James Popeye for that matter. ;)
