I remember seeing an "In Search of" episode many years ago about Rockefeller's disappearance. The episode touched on a theory that Rockefeller survived and "went native", so to speak and was living with one of the tribes. There was even a reporter who spent a great deal of time in New Guinea trying to track down rumors of sightings.

My gut feeling always was that he drowned.
