The US gov is wasting 436 million per year producing the penny as it costs twice its worth to make it. Canada already decided to do away with their penny so shouldn't the US follow? The Nickel is another example of higher production cost than its worth. Is the gov just lazy or what?

True...it even costs more to make a penny! Here's what James "The Nerd" Rolfe says about pennies!...

If you get rid of both the penny and the nickel imagine how much more things will cost. Businesses will have to round prices to the nearest zero. I'm sure they will all round up and not down. It might not seem like much, but over time it will add up.

Keep the nickel, take the penny...the quarter is $.25 and is useful!

In Canada were we no longer have the penny sometimes they round up and sometimes the round down. Whichever is less. so sometimes you pay more and sometimes you pay less. Basically it all balances out.
