It should be noted that Mad About You actually had two episodes titled "The Finale". The first episode with that title aired as the season finale of season 4 on May 5 and May 19, 1996. It was a three-part episode; part 1 aired on the 5th and parts 2 and 3 aired as a one-hour episode on the 19th. The second episode with that title aired as the season finale of season 6 on May 19, 1998, along with "Nat & Arley".

However, an episode titled "The Finale" is typically reserved for the final original episode of a TV series ever, and neither of these episodes is MAY's actual final episode, despite their titles. The real final episode of MAY was titled "The Last Frontier", aired on May 24, 1999.

A piece of trivia: Danny Jacobson & Paul Reiser wanted to end the show on season 4, and then on season 6, but at the end, they choose 7 seasons, because NBC wanted to keep the show as long as possible. Both Resier & Hunt got 1 million dollars for each episode of season 7, and they said that they agreed only if season 7 will be the final season.
